consider 3-4 weeks acceptable?

Looking to get people's opinions on how they feel about 3-4 week turn around from a major rifle manufacturer on a warranty repair.Plus 10 days shipping there so I'm going on a whim to say 10 back. I know I was kinda disappointed to hear 3-4 weeks after they received it. Couldn't help but feel like the old days when you mailed out a couple bucks with a few cereal box upc's for a baseball just to get it a year later and your older and realise the ball is crap. Not to say the gun will be but dam. A customer that has already started off with a bad taste should feel like the company cares. Not like tiawan has got a lot of balls to process. Anyway. That's my vent. How would u guys feel? PS. Gun is one of the higher end models too.

Give 'em benefit of doubt: many times companies will quote long, just in case. After all they need reasonable time to inspect & properly repair the defect. If it in fact takes that long I guess that's just what it takes but - hopefully - you'll see your item returned before that.

Did you consider taking a picture of it and attaching it to a text message to send to them. That would at least save time on the shipping.

Send the gun to a top gunsmith. You might get it back in 6 months.
Build 100,000 of anything with a 1% return rate and you have 1,000
to repair.

If they fix it in the end ill be happy. I'm just saying. Even I can go online on some good forums like this and with help determine pretty quickly what it is. Especially with a large companies resources.. 3-4 weeks. I don't even know what u could look at for that long on a rifle. Especially a bolt action. When I installed remote starts which can be very complex and a customer had to bring it back. We dropped everything and fixed it. while the customer waited. Because we appreciated our customers. I'm not getting that feeling now. I'm hopeing thqt they are trying to under promise and over deliver but. 3-4 weeks. Really?

I still feel that even if the numbers of returns are staggering you then have to get more employees.

You could at least tell us what is wrong or what you think is wrong.We may be able to guide you through it and that way you wont have to send it back.


I just wanted to add that I have been there too with a ruger handgun.The only difference was I could talk directly to the tech who had my work order.It took about 3.5 weeks and when I got it back,it was perfect.They touched anything up needing it and now it is more accurate than most that I have shot being of the same model gun.Sometime's even though it takes a bit of time,it is worth it.

I noticed that you didn't mention the problem, but thats o.k. In these days and times companies try to run at full production with the least amount of employees, and that would be in all departments...including inspection and repairs. As was mentioned before if 100,000 units are produced yearly and a 1% return rate (1000) units, thats about 3 per day. Doesn't sound like much work, but generally speaking the rifle will get a good and thorough look see, possible repair or tweeking then rebox and ship, a month doesn't really sound too bad, shipping time is neither your fault or theirs...just part of the equation.
In the 90's I bought a Merkel S/S shotgun as soon as they became available in the US again. The butt stock had a flaw around the tang area which was exacerbated while fireing. I called the importer, they put me in touch with the repair craftsman, I sent the shotgun next day air, he fitted a complete stock both butt and forearm in a much nicer grade of wood that would come on this grade of shotgun and returned it to me in a fitted factory case and sent me my airline approved case as well. Time of repair was 8 weeks. I didn't bitch at all.
If it comes back right the first time, a month is nuttin but a thang! 8)

I listed a post on this site. My model 12 savage shoots 38 inches low. At 100. Tried everything. Its either the barrel or surface of the action. I didn't give them a hard time at all.

It would of been interesting to put a piece of .030 thou shim under the back end of the mount and see what happened.I have one shimmed that way now and a remington with some shim under it.

Naturally that would get it closer. I Did get it within my Scopes adjustment range using a 30moa slope. Thing is though. I don't feel like thats something a customer should have to do to get a new rifle on at 100 yards. Its not like I'm pulling my grandfathers grandfathers gun out from under the shed out back and trying to shoot it.

Quite often you will get it back much faster than quoted. They like to pad a little time on so they aren't getting flooded with calls wondering if it's done. I've sent a few scopes in for tune up & always have had them in about 1/2 the quoted time. The big thing is that everyone, regardless of price etc, puts out the occassional dud. How they handle it is a huge factor in my decision of who's equipment that I purchase the next time.

Both Mark and Larry get it. It's a capacity issue combined with "underpromise and overdeliver". 3-4 weeks from a manufacturer as large as Savage? Nothing to complain about if they correct the problem.

Perfect example of how I feel a company that that truly cares about customer satisfaction handles claims. I sent out my leupold vx3 scope for repair that I bought used. They received it a day later then savage received my rifle. Today I called savage. Still haven't got to it or acknowledge receiving or anything. However. Leupold sent me a letter regarding turn around time etc a couple days later. I also called and they said its in the mail to be arriving this Thursday. Leupold rebuilt and installed a new Tmr reticle before savage got to my rifle. I would think leupold having a lifetime transferable warranty would have way more claims on there hands. Having experienced te repair service leupold offers u can bet I will only be buying leupold Scopes from here on. Savage.. if I do buy again ill have to feel like I hope its a good one or ill be shooting my other guns for a while.
