Confused about trying to reloding 22 Hornets

Anyone have a copy of the old Rocky Raab article about loading for the Hornet to share for this post? Its a good article and really makes the Hornet shoot well.

I've shot the hornet a bit....
I'm back now to a Handi Rifle in regular hornet.
My contender carbine in K Hornet would shoot pretty well. My go-to bullet was the 40gr VMax, with a 40gr JHP as a very close second.
I also shot the Speer 50gr TNT with success.
I dabbled with cast bullets, and it showed a lot of promise, I just didn't have time to pursue it like I wanted to.
If you want max velocity, you should probably use Lil Gun powder, but for consistency, and almost as good velocity, I recommend AA1680.
Google how to test for the distance to your rifling lands, and seat your bullets out to just almost kissing the lands. That distance will vary from rifle to rifle, you won't know until you test/determine it yourself.
I don't crimp bullets. If I felt the need to, I'd see if Lee had one of their factory crimp dies, and set it to just barely squeeze the neck.

Don't apologise! It's just me letting my incurably pedantic side get out of control again. I have a personal grouch with this cartridge too having tried it many years ago in a well-used old Savage 340 and never overcoming its tendency to produce 4+1 groups, the 4 often being wonderfully close together and the 1 an inch or more away from the others at 100 yards.

I took mine out Sunday afternoon and this same thing you speak of happens to me every time I shoot my Hornet. 4 rounds in a nice single hole then one round flies 1” from the other 4. I have shot 2 different Hornets with basically the same results. I will say my Savage has been way more consistent than my Ruger.

I had a heavy barrel Ruger 77-22 Hornet for a very short time, and could not get it to shoot better than a couple of inches at 100yds.
My first HandiRifle did better than that, around 1 1/4" regularly. My contender carbine with a 16" regular hornet barrel was very accurate.... the one time I got to shoot on paper at 200yds, I managed a group of around .7" for 5 shots.
When I switched to a K Hornet barrel, it became a consistent sub-moa shooter. These were typical targets from it.... I had others, but can't locate them...
I'm not a benchrest shooter, obviously, but the Hornet can be wonderfully accurate...
