Coned Bolts & Feeding From The Mag

I just ordered a bolt from PT&G for a Rem 700, it will be a magazine fed rifle. I ordered the Rem style bolt but I've been reading where some shooters are using coned bolts on repeater actions, anyone know for sure this will work? More specifically will it work with magnums fed from Accurate or AI mags?

I have a PT&G coned bolt on the 700 action in my Elisio gun. The bolt feeds flawlessly with Gary's magazines. Not to sure how it would work with a staggered magazine though.

Eddie , I think the reason the old model 70's worked well with a cone shaped bolt was because of the claw extractor and the controlled feed . However in a push feed it's not going to work as well especially from a staggered mag . I tried a PTG cone bolt with a staggered mag and it did not work well . I changed that to a detachable single line mag and voila , instant solution !

Coned bolt face , on the outside . How would you cone it on the inside ?

What caliber was your rifle? I'm setting up this model 700 to feed the mag/ultra mag brass out of an Accurate mag do you know of anyone else that's doing it with a coned bolt?

The same way Remington 700 bolts were altered to accommodate the PPC case. For a repeater rifle, I can't imagine why one would opt for a coned bolt. No need to fix something that isn't broken.

With a coned bolt. More importantly, the breech face (chamber end of barrel) is also coned (funneled). As you can imagine this design is superior for repeating actions. Look at the Tubb 2000. The ultimate repeating rifle.

HI Jay,,,I have a Kodiak (modified Panda Hunter class legal, with integral lug--20 moa rail-jewell trigger with side safety--for those who are wondering) with .308 bolt face and I use 6mm BR's (with spacer in mag well) or .243's or 30 SAILOR (30x6mm 250 AI) and they all feed flawlessly with its "coned" bolt and breech system,,,hope this helps with your decesion...most folks have never seen a benchrest style cone breech action used this way and are full of bad info and prejudice,,,,,Roger
PS,,mine is a rem style staggerd mag,,,the strait line style would be the cats meow!!
