Coned bolt

I have Question for you all

I have a PTG coned, Sako Extractor, fluted, sort action bolt.

The project will be a prone rifle in 6mm. The action I was going to recieve on a Great Deal fell through. Now im looking for a good action for the build since I have this $200 bolt.

Stock is for a SA Remmy.

How much harder is it to chamber for a coned bolt than the flat Remmy one. Is it easy to get a outstanding fit with a coned or not as easy as compared to the flat remmy?

I need to put a Firing pin assy. in this $200 doller bolt yet & want the very best. What are your recomendations?

I would like to have a reciever mounted bolt stop. The kelbley trigger does not allow for one., love the trigger)

The bolt Diameter is .704 or so it says on the payed receipt.
What is the optimum clearance between the raceway bore diameter & bolt body for a Prone gun.,non benchrest rifle).

My thoughts so far is Peirce firing pin, Tubb spring, Predetor action.

Barrels are Rock Creek & Steve Satern.

Also what kind of lube do u use on the cam mech of the bolt to prevent Gauling?, lugs also)

Thank you in advance

OK fire away

Using a coned bolt in a 700 receiver will not allow for the 3 rings of steel that Remington touts to enclose the bolt head. Most of the majors use a coned bolt and a few use those bolts on a 700 action with no problems other than setting it up right.
It's just as easy to set one up as the other, and the tolerances are as good as you make them.
The Kelby trigger is sweet no doubt, I like mine too).
A external bolt release can be obtained from Sinclair.
Send your bolt to Gre-Tan for one of their complete firing pin Assembly's and have the bolt bushed then if it needs it done.
Clearance between the bolt and bolt body depends on the conditions you'll shoot in. If it's dust and dirt blowing you will need more clearance than if it's nice and clean conditions. .005 to .010
Any good lube will work as good as any to prevent galling, but don't go overboard and gum it all up for a dirt attractor.......

I think you may have a hard time getting Stiller to make you a Predator without a bolt. I don't know what the Predator's raceway diameter is, it may need to be reamed to accept the bolt. If you are thinking Predator, I would just sell the bolt and use the one that comes with the action. I think you will have a hard time finding a 700 action that will accept a .704" bolt too. Most raceways seem to measure between .701-.704 on the tang end. The raceway will need to be reamed to accomodate a bolt of this size, not cheap). I feel that even for a rifle that will be in dusty situations, bolt fit can be pretty tight. For a prone rifle, no more than .003" is nessecary, just keep the rifle clean. A Gre-tan firing pin assembly is complete with shroud and spring, and at $50, a bargain. As the previous poster suggested, many greases will work for your lugs. Grease them sparingly, but often.

would it not be easy to just turn down the bolt since it does not have the handle on yet. therefore making it a perfect fit?

I have a Holland spring & Pin on my other Remmy. I was Cerous about the Peirce set up? good or bad or its the schnizzle?

I Tend to keep my rig in a soft case & zipped up when on the range to keep out the dirt. so .003 would be a good way to go for bolt clearance?

Problem seems to be solved with the action choice now.

OK how about firing pin Protusion?
