Coned bolt question

This may be a ridiculous question. I was sitting here thinking...would a coned bolt be safe to shoot in a non-coned barrel. I can see how the other way would be very unsafe due to the aft section of the case being unsupported out of the barrel.

It seems with a coned bolt the rear of the case is supported.....Just up late....

Very Respectfully

No , excessive headspace. No it doesn't fit the fabulous 3 rings of steel as the contours are different and the ring on the barrel would have to be machined to a cone to match. You would have to set the barrel back once it was coned to match the bolt.

Yes you could, but you would lose all the benefits of the coned bolt design. It could be setup with proper headspace and all. Only thing that would happen is that you would lose tenon length since no matching cone would be machined on barrel.

Why would you think of stuff like this? LOL

I didn't know the bolts were different.
a flat face breach has to have ejector notches in the right place for bolt to close and a coned shape breach does not.

That's all I know ........ ain't much and its subject to change.

Why do you think any flat faced breach would need a ejector cut..
Were you thinking Win 70's and extractor's ??

All the ones I've seen....
the extractor notches to each side of the bullet have to be aligned with the extractors on a flat faced breach. :o ;)

The way I read it was he was wondering if he could drop in a coned bolt and run with it. And in that case the head space would be more than likely incorrect.

Yall ever see a reverse cone on a barrel on a rimfire? Got one on my 40x. The extractor grabs the rim around the cone. Just throwing that out there to break it up a bit
