Concealed carry test.

I’ve decided to get my CCL here in Texas. We’re a Constitutional Carry State already but my local FFL guy keeps bitching at me to get it so he doesn’t have to do the 4473 every time I buy a gun. A little research says it’s recognized in a bunch of other states, including Delaware.
I got a little nervous about the shooting test because it’s been a while since I practiced. Last time I got my card, there was no “test” Today, I looked up the shooting portion and thought it a bit easier than I expected. Is this the same test used elsewhere?

Josh, the classes used to be 2 days and a couple of hundred dollars now they are 1 day and much lower priced. Even though Texas is Constitutional carry now I keep mine just for the ease of not having to wait on background checks whenever I buy a firearm or do a transfer , I just got it renewed as well through the mail Thank You Lord Jesus. And like Jackie said Ray Charles could pass the shooting test.

No shooting test here in Pa. I Just renewed mine online and picked it up at the county courthouse/sheriffs office 3-4 days later. Surprisingly easy for a democratic state. Although not reciprocal in any bordering states, which really sucks since I’m located real close to the Pa/Md/De state line and travel outside Pa often.

In Virginia, there are a couple of options for the 'training' requirement. One is to take the Hunter Safety Course, which you can do online in about 10 minutes. A trip to the Clerk's office to drop off the application (downloadable from the Virginia State Police site), a bit of money (really cheap in my county), wait a few weeks, go pickup your permit. Pictures and prints were required 20+ years ago when I first started carrying legally.... The deputy asked me about any training classes, etc. When I replied that I shot USPSA, a deputy yelled from another room, "you're good on checking off that training box, he can probably teach us". Easy day.

"my local FFL guy keeps bitching at me to get it so he doesn’t have to do the 4473 every time I buy a gun"

I used to sell guns at Academy when I lived in TX. It always ticked me off when a newbie CHL holder would say he didn't need to do a 4473 because he has a CHL. YOU ARE WRONG.
Dealer can skip the background check with a CHL, but you must complete the 4473. Even had one jerk argue with me about it. Guess who didn't get a gun?

Don't be that guy.

It's an easy shooting test. I was nervous too, but ~3/4 of the way through the test, the gent teaching it said I had achieved passing score and didn't need to shoot more.
I kept shooting, because it was my daughter and I at the line. She passed too, but this was one rare occasion where I could outshoot her.

Used to be our Mn concealed carry permit, fill out 4473 and leave. But the Fed's looked at our commie run state ID and found illegals were getting concealed carry permits. Our permits are now worthless. And my state government would NEVER require me to shoot at a human shape. Can't protect property here, soon to be every state according to democrat/WEF.

I cheated. I took a s&w 422 instead of my XD subcompact 40. That being said one should be proficient with your EDC.
Yup! I’m taking my favorite, most accurate pistol. I’ll practice more with my little 9s after I pass.
I’ve been wearing a bunch of different holsters to see which one is more comfortable.
So far, a Galco IWB for my 1911 is the best. Seems prophetic!

No test here in PA, just an application and criminal background check.

In my personal opinion, more effective results would be obtained if CCL applicants completed a CCL tailored classroom course regarding, safe gun handling and basic firearm function, tactical defensive pistol skills and techniques, and most importantly, the law in your State regarding the use of deadly force.

I voluntarily took such a course in the 70's given by a former State Police officer who also had a law degree. It was well worth the time spent and nominal fee paid.

The fallacy of a target shooting test is that it has no semblance to a lethal threat situation where there is a high stress, usually in low light, usually at very close distance and very quick decisions have to be made. Add in the assailant being armed with a weapon intent on doing you harm and all the marksmanship training in the world goes out the window. It becomes an instinctive shooting situation where survival hangs in the balance. Being mentally prepared to handle those circumstances is more important than hitting a "X" ring on a B27 target under calm conditions, good light, and aimed fired from an optimum shooting position facing the target directly.

Amen, brother.

I did the concealed carry test in Texas about ten years ago. The shooting test is not difficult. They give you plenty of time to reload your magazines, the main interest is that you understand how to do it yourself. Course of fire is something like "load three", then fire, "now load four", then fire, etc. There is a time limit for firing, but as I recall it's very generous.

If you do the test with a full size pistol that you are comfortable with, it will be like fish in a barrel. As of recently, I think you're allowed to qualify with a 22lr pistol!

Don't worry about it, have fun!

The only purpose of that course is to eliminate the guy or gal who drops the gun, points it at someone or self, or pounds a round into the floor or cieling. Otherwise it is a no brainer. Even my Sheriff passed that one and he was a real estate agent.

If I carry my 1911 iwb, I'm gonna have to get bigger pants and a better belt. Flexfit jeans are my friend.

Not sure what other states require but, this is NOT a draw from the holster test..
Most indoor gun ranges do not allow this at all and not for your CC permit.
You have to have in a case and pointed down range before you start.

Seems silly that you don't have to qualify with your concealed carry.
Use could use a 22 to qualify.

Had one guy said he hasn't shot his pistol since his original 16 hr test.
So he hasn't shot it in 5 years. The instructor just rolled his eyes.

in Florida only one shot needs to be taken . It’s doesn’t even have to be at a target , a bullet trap will do . I just did my 2 or 3 renewal on line .

I don't remember reading anyone posting about Arizona. It's (almost) not required to shoot a qualification for a new CWP, nor is a CWP required to carry concealed. There are instructors conducting approved training courses and some may require a qualification of sorts. Training requirements in Arizona can also be fulfilled by showing almost any NRA safety course certification, or almost any LEO type certification, or military current duty ID, or Honorable US Armed Forces discharge, or Under Honorable Conditions discharge, or state approved Hunting Education certificate and others such as out of state CCW that requires training, etc.

I started thinking today that it’s time to renew my permit, after a conversation with local authorities Montana doesn’t require a CWP to carry concealed, although if wanting to proceed my permit from communist western Washington will suffice for any training so just fill out the form and schedule my interview is all that’s required.

Plus $55.00..

Getting Texas gets me most of the US. I’m a bit perturbed at the color choices of the chart, tho. I understand most of the red states, but what’s going on with Maine?
