Component Scarcity: Where's the Varget

At least Wayne is using it and not turning it around and raping the desperate like some that we have seen during this mess.

Besides needing to buy thousands of gallons of petrol in one shot Wayne seems to have a great life going. Enjoy Wayne.
Joe,
I haven't talked to you in forever, I hope all is well with you my friend. Yes things have been really busy here, I think I am going to sell this crap hole and move to town, buy a house with a white picket fence and hire my lawn mowed! getting tired of taking care of all this property and working a 12 hour job at the bullet factory! take care my friend.

37 Lincoln,
That was a beautiful car,...a 1937 Zephyr!...Yes your right, I have never propheted a dime off any thing I buy, I work for a living I am not even close to rich, fact is far from it! But I have give!! lots of stuff away to people that has needed it, not just gun stuff either, I have recently given powder/primer, and bullets away to guy's that were trying to compete and was out! also dies and other things, I have never sold one thing on here but have give many things to fellow shooters and I have had really great people on here give me things when I needed them also, bought a lot also! On way more than one occasion I have said I will take it, then someone right behind me says I will take it if he backs out, I have backed out so he can get it because I have multiple of them, just wanted another! I am a hoarder! and fully admit it, but not for prophet!

Don't expect to see Varget just start showing up in sufficient quantities to meet the demand.

Made in Australia and it takes tons of lead time to get a "slot" in the production runs. Suppliers may well be getting stock they ordered last year, before the insanity set in.

I was told by a source that a lot of the powder/primers are just sitting on the ships in the ports waiting to be cleared? Which that would make sense and adding wait time with it having to be shipped and cleared to get here to the US

I wouldn't doubt that!
Wayne.

He said it was something like 3 month trip from over there to here to get them on the shelves. So that alone causes a delay. Add that to the "hoarding" it just keeps backing up and backing up. Can never get caught up until all the buying settles down

I use a trick I learned from bozo699 AKA "Wild Wayne" to make my powder last longer. ;)

I rub a light coating of Vaseline on the outside of the container, this lowers the coefficient of friction to near zero on the outside of the powder container. This makes the container slip out of your hand no matter how much pressure is exerted when trying the grip the container thus making the powder unusable.

Using Wayne's method the powder and container will last forever and will not stretch your budget. :)

Ed,
Your a dam nut!!!! thanks for making me laugh today, hope all is well in your world. I am grabbing my favorite 7mm-08, loaded with some hoarded varget and some horded 140 accubonds and I am going to drive clear to Prescott, about three hours from here to pick up my favorite Mule "Coal", hopefully I see a couple coyotes on my way to and fro, and I will share some of my hoarding with the little devils ;D It is Fathers day so I think I will pick up my 80 year old father and spend a nice afternoon with him while driving down there,...cya Ed ;)

Stuff doesn't sit on ships anymore. It sits in containers waiting for Customs clearance. I'm sure that containers of Smokeless Powder are given special scrutiny.

Where's the Varget? (and all the rest of the reloading supplies?)

It is called "supply and demand" and demand is outstripping the supply.

People are buying these products and stockpiling them, in good stores they set limits on what a customer can buy at one time. More people dusted off their reloading presses because of shortages and started reloading more

In Canadian gun forums they are blaming us Americans for shortages in Canada.

If the government had only talked about banning Fords, my truck would be worth twice as much and people would be hording spark plugs and air filters. >:(

And I'm sure they are right. It's not a coincidence that this all started right after the US election and really got serious with the current push for stricter US gun control laws.

Totally agree with this.....

.....supply and demand is part of why I switched to IMR4895......just easier to come by up here....

.....I have no doubt that American panic buying is a major cause of the problem....lots of people who never loaded before, and maybe never will, who are stockpiling for some reason

I placed backorders with 3rd. Generation and Powder Valley. They were canceled the next day by both suppliers. All of the sites I have visited, state that they do not allow backorders for powder at this time.

My LGS has had it for a weeks now. Limit 3 one pounders per day !! Went in all week. I guess no one is seeing any of the 8 lbs ??

I had hoped to have some Varget to test my new Berger 155.5 Fullbores but I'm now working up loads for 4064 instead. Certainly not the worst thing that could happen. I've decided to stop worrying about it and just shoot what I've got until the panic is over.

everyone's mindset right now is buy what you see. even guys on here that have built up large enough supplies to last through this shortage. its kinda upsetting but to each his own I guess.

I just got 2 8lbers of Varget that I ordered from Midsouth back in January, so they may still have some. They were taking backorders then, maybe they still are?
