Completely humbled by 95gr tmk

so I put together a new Norma dasher on a 9-1/4 twist 8 groove barrel I had laying about. I went to the range today and at 100yd grouping would not be the right word. I ladder tested in .3 gr increments from 30-32.6gr varget over a br4 primer several were over 6" for 3 shots I got one group of 1.5" at the 32.3 increment all were set at .005 jump. My crowning wasn't completely cooperating but when it did read velocities were 2800-3040fps ES around 30fps usually Any ideas on what to try next? Id like to at least enjoy burning these bullets up. Can't enjoy buckshot groups Thanks (I know this scenario has thousands of variables but I'm not after bugholes, MOA will make me smile)

What elevation are you shooting at?

Went back to range with some 60gr and some nosler 95bt and got acceptable groups from both at least they looked like groups. Most were little over an inch. Twist was measured with the cleaning rod method to get the 9-1/4 twist number. So it seems that 9-1/4 is to far over the line at least in this rifle! Thank you everyone (well almost everyone the purely snarky comments can go unthanked)

Thanks for the update. It's nice to have someone post results. Everyone learns something that way. Hope it turns out well for you. :) WD

Possibly check the twist yourself. Just because it's stamped 9.25 twist doesn't mean it is 9.25
WD,,,I agree ,,,some folks ask and ask for advice and get LOTS of it and then never reply or say thank you,,,I apreciate his feedback also,,,,Roger

Funny story....My brother was working on his 22 250 AI and 55 gr Btips. He shot 3 shots at 25 to get the new setup on paper and then began testing at 100. Major frustration after a day of shooting. 1 - 2 MOA Tore the gun down, checked it over, and put it back together with a new scope. Day two was turning out just like the first.....HORRABLE groups. Just as he was leaving the range he decided to pick up the 25 yard target from the day before since it wasn't being used any more. ALL 3 HOLES WERE KEYHOLED....... PERFECT BULLET SILLOWETS.......but at 100 no sign of tumbling at all...or , at least very very little sign. The 55 grainers would not stabilize in a 14 twist tube. I checked the Berger twist calculator and it gave a .79 or some thing like that....way under stabilized. My thought was how many hundreds million 55 grain BTip's had been shot over the years in factory 14 twist bbls with ZERO problems?

My point, you can't always tell by looking at the bullet hole shape if the bullets are unstable.

I shoot a lot of 58 GR VMaxes from my 6BR 14 twist. No problem. Bearing length may have something to do with it. Sounds strange that they are sideways at 25 yrd then seem to straighten out at 100?

I am pretty sure that if we moved the target 25 yards in either direction we would see the keyhole again.....it just so happened that 100 yards was where they were point forward in their cycle. Just like throwing a knife that sticks perfectly......move the target 3 feet in either direction with the same "RPM" and the knife would hit sideways.

Also...a 22 cal 55 grain and a 58 grain 6mm are toatly different animals......the 58 grain 6mm and the 14 twist are perfect for each other. The 22 cal 55 grain Balistic Tip Shows TOTALY UNSTABLE in a 14 twist according to the Litz Calculator. But again...MILLIONS have been fired trouble free!!!

I treated them like VLD's when determining seating depth but barrel is a 7.5t. got pretty consistent .5MOA groups at 200 yards but not until I jumped them .070". 31.5 Varget, CCI 450.

A hacksawn and bench grinder straightened crown wont make a decent combo shoot a 6” group so the crown isnt the issue. According to the pic that bullet is as long as the 105 class bullets so id bet the twist is wrong like some have said. I bet if you try an 80 or any other non tipped sub 95gr bullet itll shoot good
