Comparison of 6.5 calibers.

there are several good articles on here concerning 6.5 cartridges, but if you want a good comparision piece on the .260, 6.5 creed, and the 6.5x47, you should do a search for Zak Smith, he did a great writeup on the three after the two latest came out. Also, Laurie Holland just had an article about the 6.5mm caliber at targetshooter magazine, (Check the daily bulletin march 30)

My 6.5x55AI shows a lot of promise using Lapua 139gr Scenar's & Berger 140gr Hybrids with 4831sc. Loads varied from 49.1 to 51.1gr and OAL from 3.015 to 2.990". Velocitys ranged from 2972 avg to 3073fps using a V3 Magnetospeed chrono. The Bergers had the lowest SD & the Scenars seemed to be the most accurate at 500m hitting 8 out of 10 4" clays with a left to right 8 to 12 mph wind. I'm looking forward to returning to Mexia this fall.

Well, some might call it "outdated" or "old fashioned" (from an old thread) but I like it. I have not tried the Creedmore or the 47 yet. The 47 is on my wish list for the future, as is the 30br. Right now, I'm enjoying the 6br, a new 8 twist .223 and a 22-250ai. So little time.

6.5x55 is out, my rifle is a short action curently chambered in 308.

Based on that I'd be looking at the 6.5-47 Lapua. The brass runs in cycles and I've been getting in stock notices again. I've just got 2 6.5L's and a 6L shooting and still in load development so I can't make any accuracy claims yet but from what I've seen it's there I just need to tune a little more.

The Tikka T3's are all long actions with different length bolt stops to accommodate short action cartridges. Going to A .260 Rem would only require putting on a new barrel - and you could still use your .308 mags.

The 6.5 CM has been a good round that works as target round or a hunting round. I'm strictly a target shooter and became involved with the 6.5CM on the advise of guy that was giving me advise on as I was becoming involved in longrange shooting. Even though he shot the 6.5 x 47 Lapua round which was what I had planned on going too. I like it enough that I not only have a bolt gun, but just pick up a gas gun in 6.5CM both shoot 1/2moa or better loading Berger VLD bullets. Loading has been easy, my 6XC is the only thing that was easier to find a accurate load.

6.5 Creedmoor is the easiest to start off with because of components availability and affordable match factory ammo.

47L is the king of the popularity hill at the moment (for good reasons) and if brass was easily found it would get my vote 100% of the time, if you strictly plan on handloading.

If you have a secure contact with 47L brass you will not regret going with the 47L.

Ballistics of the 260, 6.5 CM and the 47L are close enough that choosing one over the others based on ballistic performance is irrelevant.
