Comp. Neck sizing Die Help

I'm having trouble sizing all the down just before the neck/shoulder junction. My RCBS 6.5 x 284 comp. die is bottoming out after sizing only about .200" of the neck. I did the whole run the shell holder up, screw down the die till it stops and turn counterclockwise till the micrometer numbers are facing you. Then I unscrewed the micrometer head way up to start with and worked my way down. The de-capping pin was removed to begin with. I know I must be doing something wrong, someone please set me straight!!!! How much of the neck do I need to size?

Thanks Again

The part that seats against the bushing needs to run down closer to it. Run it down til it stops then barely back it off so that it can float a bit

I use my Redding bushings upside down. However, I don't know if that has bearing on your problem.

You need size only enough of your case necks to hold new bullets with the neck tension you prefer IF when loaded this way you can easily chamber each round. What portion of the necks that doesn't get re-sized may actually help center that round in the chamber neck... if it'll chamber at all.

I typically only size the first 0.15" of my Palma rounds & they shoot just fine thanks.

If this isn't to your liking though, try placing a second bushing with a larger ID on top of the one you've selected to size your necks. Some die designs will work this way to size farther down the case necks since the second bushing holds the first in place whilst also allowing necks to come thru rather than butting into the bushing stop nut.

Did that..Still .050 away
The bushings are tapered on both ends to make sure the case necks can slip in without being damaged. Therefore, it is never going to size the neck-shoulder junction. You need to use a non-bushing sizing die if this is your goal.
