Over the past two years I have bought two cases of commercially available 308 ammo marketed as M118LR. The first batch I got a little over two years ago was branded Bullets First. The batch I bought this past April was Winchester branded in the plain brown box like this picture. I experienced the same anomaly with both batches - misfires. A lot of misfires. The bullets first brand was more consistent in the misfire rate - two to four in every box of 20. My Remington 700 seemed more tolerant and yielded fewer misfires than my M1A but I had misfires in every box. Some of the misfires had shallower firing pin dimples than others. Some had some pretty significant dimples. Neither rifle has ever experienced a single misfire in thousands of rounds each of Federal Gold Medal Match. My AR-10 did not experience a single misfire for fresh rounds or once - sometimes twice, struck rounds. The Winchester branded batch was less consistent with misfires box by box, sometimes I could go an entire range session or match shooting as many as five boxes without a single misfire. Sometimes I had seven misfires in a box most of which fired second time through. Both the Winchester and Bullets First branded batches had LC 21 LR brass and what looks like a genuine 175 grain Sierra Matchking. The handful I pulled did weigh 175 gr give or take.
