Comfortable slip-resistant work shoes: Need advice

I have had good luck with Timberlands, where them everyday. I'm a mechanical contractor, so I am in all kinds of floor situations. Composit or steel toe, insulated or not. Very comortable, wear very well, they are heavier than some.
Good luck
Randy

Been a mechanic for near 50 years, don't think you can find a slip resistant / proof shoe, oil resistant yes, as in oil will have a more difficult time deteriorating the materials. I have been a fan of Red Wing shoes most of my career. That being said, Red Wing has changed manufacturing process to keep up with the times: no more replaceable soles, they are using the same process as athletic shoe manufactures do. Overall they are still one of the best work shoes out there , expensive, and non re-soleable.

YMMV

And clean them damn floors before someone slips !

And I agree about keeping the floor cleaned. Spills are part of the game but leaving tranny fluid on the floor for hours (or even overnight) is crazy. But that’s how it goes.

I also agree that Redwing makes (or “made”) some pretty good stuff. But the last pair I had were junk. Both soles split in half. Tried to get them re-soled and just like you said: can’t be done. Redwings are too expensive to be disposable shoes.

I've been wearing Redwings for the past 40 years, 5 or 6 years ago someone gave me 2 pairs of Timberlands in my size, I thought I might not have to buy boots for awhile. Wrong, I got Plantar Fasciitis so bad I could hardly walk. They have no arch support. I went to therapy for months, so if you want to take a chance on cheap boot, I'd think again. I buy the Redwings with the comfort force sole, I get the gore-tex too, I wore a hole in the sole on a pair and my feet would still stay dry.

I’m a piping designer by trade. I find myself in chemical plants a lot walking over a wide variety of surfaces. Some slick, some sticky.

Slick is a tough one, but I really like my Keene safety boots. They do the job for me. They are like wearing a pair of lightweight hiking boots.

I bought them because I was looking for the most comfortable boots I could find. Everything else was secondary.

Hope this helps.
2nd that Keen is the one, best comfort and made very well
I use the steel toe ones
As a machinist we have same problems.
They are pricey though

Redwings have sucked very badly for at least 10yrs. Not worth it at a quarter of the price.

You are right. "The kids" are running Redwing now and have been cutting quality for years..... I wore them since '76 on factory floors till '95. They are a Walmart Quality riding on a previously well earned name. I thought something was remiss the last two pr I bought as they did not wear worth a flip......and I'm retired! No daily concrete.
Keene/ Keen was my multi brand shoe sales Mgr guru suggestion.

Redwing still has some very good USA made boots and shoes but you will need to find a good Redwing store to get them. They are not sold online. The 608 boot is the best work boot I have found. The soles last a long time and are great on the shop floor and ice. Redbacks are another boot that have very good soles but are limited in sizes.

You are absolutley correct. I wear the 1412's, & they are 100% "Made in USA". (with USA materials) They ain't cheap but you get what you pay for. They can be re-soled also.

Your feet are your foundation. I never skimp on a cheap boot.

Chippewa, Matterhorn, Danner, and Thorogood make American boots. But they also offer Chi-Com made.

I have every major brand out there for the last 25 + years.
THERE IS NOT A BOOT MADE THAT WILL NOT BE ACT LIKE ICE SKATING WHEN STANDING ON ANTIFREEZE ON A POLISHED FLOOR !!!!
Now I will say some others do ok with ATF or oils but nothing is worse than antifreeze. In the automotive field spills are unavoidable and a flat rate tech won't stop production every hour to clean the floor.
Learning how to walk on slippery surfaces will help as well. Anyone of us northern boys can tell you we walk like penguins for 5 month a year !!!! :D
