Considering a job in Columbus OH and am wondering what kind of insight anyone may have to offer someone that loves to shoot rifles, I am a F-Class Shooter and noted Malvern and Cincinnati have 600yd ranges and then there is Camp Perry to the North. Is there an active rifle club in the Columbus area?

Any other insight for a redneck from the North, but one who has lived in such cities as MSP, ORD, & DTW..

Open to any comments...

I'm not sure of any 300yd+ ranges around central Ohio. There is the Logan County Fish and Game in Bellefontaine(about 45 min NW of Columbus) that goes out to 200 yards and has nice firing benches etc. Tusco Rifle Club about 2 hours east of Columbus has several ranges and I believe one of them goes out to 1000 and is the nicest range I have been to in Ohio. A place to compete is here, http://www.raynersrange.com/ about an hour east of Columbus out to 1000 yards but not a benchrest match. I live in Hilliard which is a suburb of Columbus. Send me a pm if you would like for me to call you with more info.

There is plenty going on within a couple hours drive, but a lot of it just doesn't show up in the pubs.

Columbus is a great town. Large enough to be cosmopolitan, small enough to be convenient. Good school systems. If you don't like the city, there are convenient burbs with great schools.

Addendum: Due to the way schools are funded in OH, the school system drives the real estate market here. If you want a home that will retain value, you need to be in a great school system.

Thunder Valley and Rayners range are two clubs on the east side of the state, (Zanesville area). They both have regular matches and will let you stretch your targets out considerably. I think Thunder valley has a mile target that is set up all the time.....

Gallipolis has a regular BR shoot too.

If you have any questions about Alliance Rifle Club located in Malvern, Ohio please email me secretary AT alliancerifleclub DOT us

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We have XTC, MidRange/LongRange and Palma matches. We have 1 Palma match a month and the XTC, MR/LR alternate weekends. Our range allows for shooters wanting to shoot 600 and 1000 yards at the same time for the MR/LR matches.

The Miami Rifle and Pistol 300 yard varmint league is every 2nd Saturday October through March. It's very, very competitive. You'd meet a bunch of guys that are into the local scene including some F-Class shooters.

zanesville rifle club has 300 yards with pits, very active, website, etc. shoot there on occasion. good people, good club.

Just North of Marysville (25 minutes from Columbus) there is a 300 yard range. Richwood Gun and Game, very nice range. Malvern is by far the best range in Ohio for 1000 yard matches. Good luck to you. Jonathan

Not to far from Columbus (A bit north and west) is Marion Ohio. Just outside of Marion is Meeker. There you will find the meeker sportsmen's club, they have a nice 400 yard range. https://www.facebook.com/Meeker.Sportsman.Club If you into varmint/benchrest shooting they have a club match the 1st Sunday of the month.

Just south of Columbus you have Deer creak state park, that has a state ran shooting ranges. There is also a range in Washington courthouse called Paper tiger.

A little drive from Columbus is the Golden 600, on Fred Gold's farm. They have 600 yard Benchrest match's around the first Saturday of the month. THIS WILL BE THE BEST GROUP OF GUYS YOU WILL EVER WANT TO MEET! It reminds me of a movie called the sand lot, they have a home made range and follow there own rules, and make one heck of a fun event, with big cash payouts. They usually attract about 20 shooters, and have been up close to 50 shooters in a match. All I can say is it is an awesome time, and well worth the trip and any length.

There is also the Delphos range and we hold Benchrest club match's on the first Sunday of the month, we have shooters from Columbus that attend, and from other parts and from a couple of states that attend regularly. It is a great time. This range goes out to 200 yards, and has 20 benches. we would love to have you come.

Last there is two NBRSA sanctioned Benchrest match's that is a short drive from Columbus at the Shelby county deer hunters range, in port Jefferson. (Near Sidney.) These match's will bring some of the top shooters in the sport.
And there is many others as well. Sad thing is there is little to no f class if you on the west side of the state. But Benchrest is going strong.
