Colt discontinues AR15 production for consumer market

"Don't think that will work here, it's not a complete cylinder.
Will try to snapshot an enlargement of pin."

Understood, guessing pin is sized so it goes in with a slot up the side, if that is the case the grease method won't work. The couple I've done were split but sized such that they were closed up tight when installed.

Was thinking a long enough fine thread screw and cam out like a ball joint tool or lever out like a nail?
GotRDid.

It's been almost three years since Colt filed bankruptcy (aka telling your suppliers you aren't going to pay them what you owe them, and then expecting them to let you run up millions of new debt). I think they need to just go out of business quietly. Overpriced, and under quality is a deadly combination. They have been doing this for twenty years, or a bit longer, iirc. They seem to have ZERO interest in producing a competitively priced or quality product.

I agree with no loss, I have an AR I have had for years, and never use it. It just takes up space in the gun safe. If your AR was stolen tomorrow, would you miss it or replace it?
Ben
I was using ar rifles for coyotes starting in the mid to late 80’s. I was always looked at crazy for using one. Back when mag dumps with bulk ammo became commonplace and you could buy a 6920 at walmart i was alot less crazy. Unfortunately me and brett lost all of our ar stuff- mags and all- when brett tried to use a cigarette lighter for a flashlight to find a fuel leak on a boat we was using one night. It was a total loss. We were going to an island up in the aleutians to camp for a few weeks and shoot pretty much every gun we owned, i say pretty much every gun, i had a jc higgins pump 12ga, a marlin goose gun, and a t/c hawken i didnt take. I have since sold them in frustration for losing every gun i owned.

I would. One of my Colt's is a 6.5 Grendel I run suppressed. It's my varmint, coyote, and wolf gun. It and usually a bolt gun come with me most of the time.

Colt is using dead machines run by apathetic workers who are being hounded by bean counters to drag every squeeking nickel out of a crap product so that the know nothing techs can answer angry calls from frustrated customers with nonsensical promises. Quite a business venture.

They will stay in business making stuff for the government. Lord knows they buy crap every day

And in all honesty , there it is.... I am a huge le6920 fan but after seeing the one my brother in law got a year ago.... This post says it all.... Honestly for years we all said it ain't got to be pretty it's just got to work and colt dang sure took that to heart.... But lately it ain't pretty and the qc ain't pretty either... They ran their course.... Nobody is saying that a dpms and a Colt are in the same league , some of us know 99% of m16 buyers don't know the difference but come on man.... I disagree that colt is subpar to even 75% of what's on the market , but they aren't helping themselves either..... We will find out with their new pistol lines that are coming out....

The Colts have always been way over priced and there are so many good companys that haven't given in to pressure from these groups of nitwits that seem to have more power than the millions of voters. The many governed by the few as usual.

What's all the fuss about? I have built a few AR's in my garage, using 80% lowers and cheap off the shelf components. It's not brain surgery. Do they shoot? Damn well in my opinion. I will go to the range and shoot along side anyone with their store bought AR's and not be ashamed.

Make sure the upper receiver is trued to the barrel extension. Hone the trigger if using the off the shelf trigger or replace it with one of the good ones, which is my choice. If the upper and lower receivers aren't tight, that can be fixed with JB weld and a file.

I don't shoot them much anymore but when I do, two things happen. I laugh to myself because I have a gun I built for under $500 that out shoots all the expensive pretty little things others have brought. Second I like the looks on their faces when they go down range and stare at my targets then come back and ask me what I am shooting.

Bottom line here is that if Colt could make a profit from making AR's, they would. Their cost to produce them rises each year with new union contracts and rising health insurance prices. Where as the costs of components to build an AR has dropped as competition has risen.

If I were to even think about buying a Colt product now days, it would be one of the new Pythons they have out. But even they are not up to the same par, finish and all that the original Python was, back in the 60's.
As for one of there AR's, build your own or buy one from various makers that are so much better.

The last time I think anyone I know took them seriously was about 30 years ago! There was a time when the COlt HBAR were a hot ticket item but that was at least 20+ years ago. I grew up with M16 and qualified with one in 1988 at Ft. Benning Ga. and still only last Fathers-Days bought one! Actually I bought the parts and assembled my own. I can remember when Colt was at the top of it's game but I remember many more years of them riding the quality and finical stability roller-coaster. Everything they touch seems to turn to dust in a hurry. Look what they did to Ultra Light Arms! How do you go wrong with out actually trying to with an AR platform? So Colt has a long way to go in my book before they become relevant again! They need a lot of help because they really have never been very good in the last 40 years at predicting what the consumer market wants and then delivering that with consistent quality at a decent price point and good profit margin! They can do one of those 3 at a time but not 2 of them at a time let alone all 3!

Anyone Remember how fantastic the Colt Pythons were at their peak in quality. The fit and finish was fantastic! Great trigger, accurate and looked amazing!
