Coloring bullets

I have attempted to color bullet with Sharpie trade marked marked markers. No success trading the colors even when using alcohol to raise the colors. Specifically, what brand markers do those who have success with this practice do you use.

Shooting 6.5xMM projectiles at 2850-2950 FPS at 300 yards.

Interesting. So a bare bullet flies different than something with sharpie on the bearing surface. So now I can start drawing on my bullets as a method to fine tune my loads and shrink my groups! Or maybe sharpie can help positive compensation!

I thought others were already color tuning but maybe it’s just me. Green hits high since it retains speed better while red slows your bullets a bit. Maybe not enough to bring it back to fully in tune on a really hot day but the switch to red will work for 20 degree temperature swings. For humidity changes you need to play with yellow and blue. Sometimes it can even take a half blue and half yellow bullet. This system only works if you’re not color blind.

On a more serious note, Sharpie brand permanent markers. The paper can make a difference too though. The easiest to see are generally red, blue, green, purple and surprisingly yellow, in that order.

Are you jumping your bullets? Sometimes I’ve found a jump state and some times of powder must gas the bullet a touch minimizeing color… waxy type papers are problematic also..

I color a set of eyes on all my record rounds so they can see how to get to the x ring!!
Most of the time they don’t see it!!

Careful. Permanent Marker is permanent. (It's in the name). If it transfers onto your rifling, it will never come off.

So, if you do it repeatedly, it'll build up? Wind up with a permanent marker ring?

Sharpie easily comes off metal and a lot of other surfaces with acetone. Some surfaces it even comes off with rubbing alcohol.

I know this from removing enough graffiti from all kinds of playground structures and public bathrooms back when I was a teen and worked at the park.
