Cold Bore shot

On target, at our local long-range steel plate matches we don't get a sighter. No matter the distance we start the match from (could be anywhere from 235 to 1000 yards) the first shot counts for score. To place well you better be on target with your cold bore shot especially if you go for smaller high value targets right off.

The last one I took out the center of the x and the rest of the bullet hole favored the left top quadrant. This was my 6mm Competition Match, that was the 4,506th round that had been shot from that barrel. Also it had not been cleaned in over 220 rounds. Gonna miss this barrel, fixing to pull it. This was only 100 yards.

Clean cold bore first shot on target.
My secret is to use Ballistol Kleber as last product when cleaning after the shooting session, then just one way last stroke with a loose clean patch to eliminate most of the residual oil, but not all.
I leave the rifle like that until the next shooting session, and don't clean it before starting.
Believe me. It works!
I understand that that small residual oil acts as a fouler and helps to achieve the rexpected result.

The above works with Ballistol Kleber, not with other oils coming from petrol derivates.

I thought they were just easy ways for us to set up at 100, 200, and 300 yards!
Somebody needs to call the NRA about that! I coulda been seriously killed, or maybe even wounded!
