Coating or anodizing adjustable hardware pieces

Hello all,

I've got a 'project' gun (don't we all?) that hopefully will be getting the barrelled action coated sometime in the near future to a nice satin black. I've seen some guns at various matches that had all the associated hardware either coated or anodized in some fashion. By this I mean everything from the trigger guard to the fore-end rail hardware to the cheekpiece adjuster to the adjustable buttplate parts - all color coated somehow. Many of these pieces have a lot of nooks and crannies that seem like they would be near impossible to get into uniformly if just spraying a finish on, and many have tolerances where any sort of film build-up would start causing problems in short order, such as the moving parts on the buttplate for example.

Does anyone know what kind of finishing options are out there for this sort of equipment? Any recommendations as to who to send it to, that sort of thing?

TIA,

Monte

Anodizing will work BUT only on aluminum. Maybe it's possible to use on something else but I never seen anything but aluminum anodized. Type 2 has a bunch of colors but is not super tolerant of UV, meaning it will fade if outdoors all the time. Type 3 hard coat is a super coating that will increase the surface hardness to about 65 rockwell but it's a one color deal that's a grayish. Still won't work on a barrel. Ceracote or Dracoat can be reduced & should be able to get into most nooks & crannies. There are several people that do this so you might be able to get their input.

What is a ballpark cost to coat a barrel, action, and trigger guard in the duracoat/ceracoat? Just a price to include in for possible future plans.
Thanks!
