COAL, 6.5 Berger 130VLDH vs. 142SMK

I am currently using a chamber for a 260 Rem w/142SMK. With the bullet just touching the lands, the cartridge OAL is 2.950". This is about all the length that I can use in my magazine.

Anybody have an idea what the COAL would be with a Berger 130 VLD hunting bullet? With it also touching the lands.

I do know that the Berger is .020" longer than the Sierra, but getting into ogives, nose lengths, etc. is getting in over my head.

Maybe I'm too cheap, but don't really want to order a box + pay ship just to find out I can't use them.

Thanks, Dug

pm me your shipping address. i have a few 6.5 130 hunting vlds i'll send to you. this way you can get the numbers you need for your chamber.

Brian,
I agree. The OAL I'm using now is over SA mag length. It's being used in a Stiller single shot.
But, I'm planning a build for another .260 on a SA 700 BDL. The kicker here is that I have a Wyatt extended mag box. Just on the workbench it looks like it will accept up to an oal of appox 2.980. Haven't milled the action for it yet, but will mock it all up before chambering.
Trying to cover all the bases I know to do before pushing my current reamer into a new blank. When I get the VLD's from Santa(Ron) I'll be one step closer to knowing if I need to send the reamer back to PT&G to have the freebore set back, or how much.

The 130 vld loaded round is .060" longer than 142 smk loaded round. In my rifle the 130 vld is 140 fps faster than 142 smk . Good luck,Herb
