Awesome looking program James
We do one beginner clinic a year at my club. These are a lot of work to put together but very rewarding when done.

Holding clinics is a lot of work George. I have a 150 slide presentation developed from the AMU & CMP SAFS presentations plus additional information for Prone shooting.

I just wish I could draw more than 10-15 students every 2-3 years. It is hard to justify 2 days plus all of the prep. For love of the game I guess.

This isn’t an easy discipline. None of the sling disciplines are. It doesn’t seem to appeal to many anymore. Disappointing.

All Very True,

Our Clinic is next weekend as well.
We do it all in one day with about 1.5 - 2 hrs of classroom in the morning and then range the rest of the day with one on one coaching. We found over the years that much longer of a classroom session and they gloss over and don't retain much. Most do better learning by doing during the 1 on 1 coaching when they are shooting.

We have 48 signed up and paid already and of right now 6 on the waiting list. We only have 16 firing points and any more than 3 relays is too long of a day.

Our biggest disappointment is that out of those 48 we will be lucky to get 2 - 3 to stick with it.
( I think you nailed it, 3 position / sling shooting and pulling pits is too much like work to many ) That and only 1/3 time of a long day on the range is spent actually shooting.

The best thing is that the 2 - 3 each year that stick with it end up helping coach future clinics.

Even those that just wanted to try it and never come back always leave with a smile thanking us and the coach they had for the day repeatedly. Them having a positive experience with firearms is a good thing as well.

One on one coaching insures all rounds go into the berm but I do wait to replace the 2 x 4's on our wood carriers until after the clinic... :)

George

The links in the Clinic Bulleting have changed with a club website update since I wrote the bulletin. The new links are below in case anyone find the info helpful.

https://nfga.org/wp-content/uploads/highpower/basic_highpower_info/clinic_pit_crew_handout.pdf

https://nfga.org/wp-content/uploads/highpower/basic_highpower_info/SR_Shooting_Guide_AMU031204.pdf

We recommend all clinic students review both docs before the clinic and give each student a printout of the pit crew handout so they have a diagram of shot value disk locations for when they are scoring.

I plan on adding the Sight Pictures Illustrations below into the printout we give each student. The Powerpoint / classroom presentation has a couple slides on sight alignment and sight picture but it helps the student to have it in front of them on the mat on the firing line to visualize from position when shooting what they should be seeing for a sight picture while communicating with the coach.
