CMP National Matches Long Range @ Camp Perry is the first week of August. This year kicks off with a 3x600 on Monday followed by 4 days of 1k yard individual and team matches and culminating Saturday with a Palma match.

If you don’t plan to attend what is the driver? What would entice you to attend?

ETA: is everyone aware that these matches also accommodate F Open, FTR and AR tactical in addition to sling disciplines (service rifle, any rifle, Palma rifle)

We would love to attend again this year….Myself and my oldest son have gone for the past two years and have loved it. It is the only place we shoot AR-Tactical at Long Range (NRA only allows AR-Tac at Mid-Range).

It is also really exciting that the CMP has added the 3x600 this year…. I hope there is good participation and they continue to include it again in next year’s program.

My reason for not attending this year is that my 12 year old son is now competing in Mid-Range Prone AR-Tactical and has not yet started shooting at Long Range. It was a difficult decision for us and he is really looking forward to competing at Camp Perry some day in the near future, but for this year we will be competing at the NRA Mid-Range championships at Camp Atterbury. The decision is based solely on his current ability and the number of matches offered at the events.

I would love to make it up to Camp Perry myself for the Long Range Matches, but can’t take that much time off at once.

Good Luck to all that do go and we look forward to seeing everyone again at Camp Perry when my youngest is ready for Long Range.

So your the AR tactical shooter! My 6.5 Creedmoor is still in the shop and I’m thinking I won’t have it put together in time so I’ve been playing with my AR10. That f class target is tough. My gun seems to be a 2.5 moa gun at 600. I was looking at last year scores, not many shooters and I guess this year will be one less.

I can’t see with iron sights anymore, so I’m thinking I’ll put my March on the Palma gun and shoot any rifle. Sucks to be any any with a 308, but irons will cost me more points than wind drift I guess. Fingers crossed my gun comes in this week.

No, the other folks who were going to go dropped out, and travel accommodations for a single are difficult.

hope that you'll win.. are they going to use target faces for Smallbore F-Class
I've heard we get e-targets and an offset aiming point. I'm used to shotmarker and offset aiming from our local 200 yd centerfire matches.

My gun and ammo have been shooting very well lately. I can do better than last years winning score ...

on my home range with no wind. ;)

I completely failed to handle the wind out there. Not very surprising but even worse than expected.
I was a clear 4th of 4 in f-class. The one low-wind stage I won so I think I can shoot in that league.
My first day 100 yard group was amazing, 1 inch high and 4 inches wide! An 8 at 3 oclock and 9 oclock.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to learn to shoot tough wind on a tree-lined valley home range.

Also got a quick introduction to waiting for hours for an empty boat drifting into the impact area and search for the drunk who fell off.

I'm going, but many older friends aren't.
Pulling targets isn't easy and if the wind blows from east or west it really becomes a workout.
Without electronic targets for long range, i think more older shooters will stop attending this match.

Yup. This is what it boils down to. I have the same issues, easy access to the range that is a lying cheating canyon, but more distance and less access to the open honest square ranges. It keeps things interesting for sure.

I used to go. We would rent those cinderblock cabins. However, I'm told I snore something awful. No one got any shut eye except me.
Tell them to wear their earplugs. Really. I do when there's too much noise, and I still wake up to the alarm clock.

Besides, I'm sure some of them snore, too.

I miss Camp Perry. But now the national championship long range matches are at Camp Atterbury. That's where I'll be. I don't like the fact that the CMP doesn't have shoot offs at the end of the day. With the wind you can get at Perry, relays one and two defintely have the best shot at winning the match. Though not always. Just my opinion.
