Clear coat for a laminated stock

Awesome thank you, Dang that Torque curve looks smooth and flat!!!
Yeah the thing made stupid torque all the way down to 2500 rpm. When we did the initial pulls to heat soak it and loaded it statically at 2500 to seat rings it was making 400 lb-ft. It was at that moment that I knew I was going to spend a lot of $ that Summer because the T10 and the 8” were not going to survive.

As far at the 5 speed comment - I wasn’t in the mood at that time to go spend the coin on a TKX and convert to a hydraulic clutch or cut up the floor of the car that had already been cut for the T10. I built a close ratio toploader from the ground up. I don’t exactly plan to drive it on the highway but maybe down the road, you never know.

You're bringing me inspiration man, love seeing and hearing this,
I put off my vehicles for awhile to focus more on my gun builds (they seem to cost roughly the same haha)
I think it's time to get back into the hot rod stuff again
My '63 ranchero had a T-10, it would speed shift as fast as you could jerk the handle into next gear with no hiccups.
loved that tranny, but of course my cammed up 289 w ported heads didn't let it survive more than a couple years
so like you also stuck a Toploader in, it did not allow shifting nearly as fast, I love speed shifting haha
but did hold up to the power
---
like many of us when we have our first child, I traded that car off to a buddy for a more economical Toyota truck
I kid you not, with the weight of that ranchero (like comets they're very light/ 2200 lbs?) and 3.40 gears
I got 20 mpg from a hot rod. If I remember right it had a 280 Comp solid lifter cam, I loved its idle shake and rumble so much I didnt even have a stereo in it, the engine was music to me.
I drove a buddy home once who had never ridden in it, and babied it through the curvies until we hit the highway, then as he was talking with me I shifted into 2nd and floored it and he slowed down talking, then stopped, then stared ahead, waiting for me to shift, and I never did, I just let it keep revving up and up and up, until he finally asked "How high does this thing rev!!!?" then I shifted.
I turned to him and said, I dunno, never found out yet
Anyway, long story short, I Keep contemplating a 351W vs a 351C/4v Cleveland build
Had a '71 Ranchero also once that I kept the engine from
after seeing your numbers and the head info you mention
I think Im going Cleveland first, the Windsor can wait

When you say that once you open a can, you can't save any. Can you elaborate? That sounds utterly wasteful if you only want to paint something small. Does it require mixing hardener and a reducer, or is it "all in one"? If you have to mix it, I understand that you can't save what you mix.

Danny

Because of the catalyst.

Once mixed you have only so much time before things go south.

I am currently spraying something small and only mixed up 12oz worth. That is a tiny bit more than I figured I needed but not by much.

Ok, I understand the catalyst issue. I have sprayed clear coat, but a long time ago. I was thinking that you might have been saying that if you open the unmixed stuff, that you had to use ALL of it.

Stuff I sprayed yesterday I mixed exactly according to instructions and shot light coats. Only needed about 15 minutes of drying time before I could sand and shoot another coat.

The particular product I was using has usable ‘once mixed’ life of about a day. Anything much longer than that and it will turn to jelly in the cup and is worthless.

Note that how much catalyst used can be adjusted to dry slower or faster...

You can’t adjust jack with a rattle can.

Poly Spray can works good. Covers and protects if that's what you're looking for.
Automotive Clear Coat is another option, but it has issues, like making your babies be born neked and with no cloths on if you breath it. Pick your poison!!
Or, call Bc'z. ;)
Another option, local body shops shoot "Auto Clear" quite often. Most car finishes now are two stage, Clear over base color. Prep your stock, drop it off and have them shot it when they shoot the next car. :)
Or only known to do so in California

Build a clevor. Use an aftermarket 9.5 block with Cleveland mains. No oiling issues. Stoke it to 427. Custom kit with pistons for Cleveland heads. Bigger bore for less shrouding. Even though the Cleveland has wanted valve. Chi blue thunder head. Easy street able 800hp na at 11 to 1. Or build a Windsor with a Hammer head hemi

Just call Jim Woods @ Ford Strokers, tell him what you want and write him a check. Done.

I tried the Preval rattle can garbage system one time (where you mix your own whatever and then shoot in their container via their propellant).

As junky as that was at least you could control (adjust) your ratios and any additives you wanted to suit your spraying conditions.

This spraymaxx stuff sounds even worse than the Preval garbage.

No really you will like spraymax it works great. I hate painting even i can make this stuff work. Light tacky coat then 10 min later the heavy coat it will look like you don't need too buff it. But trust me a little 2000 wet sand and compound. Mirror finish

Tried some Spraymax 2k tonight. First time using it. Have to say I am impressed so far. Went on nice and looks great. We’ll see how it looks once cured.
I did 1light coat, then 3 heavier coats 20 minutes apart. The picks are from right after the last coat. Planning to wet sand and buff once it cures, unless it doesn’t need it..
