cleaning threads on action

Got the barrel off of a Stevens action, used a wheeler action wrench, it was super easy, the barrel had never been off before.
What's the best way to clean the threads on the action?
 
The wire brush is good, if you go to a hardware store, in the plumbing section there are round wire brushes plumbers use to clean the inside of copper fittings. They are great for this.
 
Acetone, a soft wire brush (long bristles) for the big chunks, followed by an old tooth brush for final cleaning. Don't skimp on the acetone. FWIW, it seems here acetone is cheaper than laquer thinner.....same stuff, different name
