The subject of cleaning rods comes up periodically, so I thought I'd add a very recent experience--just got off the phone with Midway.
I've bought close to a dozen of their Tipton rods in the last couple of years--about half of them for me and half for others--and have been pretty happy with them. I had the tip come off one, but they sent me a new one, no charge and no return required. Good customer service.
Recently, I popped open a tube with a new one that I'd bought some time ago,I like having a backup) and the rod was mounted into the handle crooked and the tip was on crooked. So, I popped open another one, okay, I ordered an extra one by mistake). Same thing.
I called Midway to complain and was expecting to get the same service that I had gotten the last time. Things have changed, however. They now have a 90-day return policy. Since I bought these rods over 90 days ago, I was stuck. I asked for a supervisor, but never got one. Instead, the phone rep went and got approval for me to return the rods for exchange.
I still haven't decided whether I'm going to bother returning these rods or not. I really don't want to mess with them if I'm going to run the risk of getting more crooked ones. I think I'd rather just junk them and order some Deweys. I never got a crooked Dewey rod.
