Cleaning Rod Recommendation

Which cleaning rod would you recommend to clear the high comb on the Tooley MBR stock on a 28 inch barreled 40X action?

Just picked up the above and now need to get a different rod, my 40 inch Bore Tech isn't quite long enough.

Chuck,

Yep, Bore Tech makes a 50 incher in 6MM, but who might have one in stock is the big question.
Anybody have any suggestions??????????????

Danny: you can order them from Bore Tech web site at http://www.boretech.com under "bore stix" for about $45-$50 depending on how long you want it. Bob

I would not order a Bore Tech.

It has extremely thin coating that peels like crazy and it will take months for Bore Tech to replace it, if you can ever get them to do it.

Go straight to Dewey and have them put their SS extension on their rod to any length you want. Last one I got was $44 delivered and it beat the hell out of the Bore techs.

after I spent months getting them back from Bore Tech, sold all of them and good riddance.

Dewey's are a throw away after a year or Boretech? I have not had any issues with Dewey rods over the last 4 or 5 years since I switched over to them. Still using the same three rods. Just curious, no flame intended.

I bought my first two Dewey rods 16-17 years ago and have added to the collection over the years. The two originals have see a ton of use with very harsh solvents and pastes and other than the usual wear, they are good as new. The bearings it the handles work as well as the day I got them, and the coating, while not as shiny as when new, is still going strong. How many can say that about their Bore-Tech's. Dewey is time proven.

I use Dewey 44" rods. My local Sportsmans Warehouse normally has them in stock. You might be able to use one if your 40" rod is just "a little" too short.

all I can say is I have a 30 yr old Dewey that is as good as ever. Never even heard of a Dewey coating peeling as it is almost twice as thick as the BoreTech. Dewey did have a problem about 10 years ago with the bearings but switched and been top notch since.

I spent almost 6 months trying to get BoreTech to answer my phone calls and emails after I sent 4 rods back with the coating peeling. Only way I got them to answer was posting on the internet and sending them the link. Then they said it was the solvent I was using until they found out it was BoreTech Eliminator, then surprise suprise, they replaced the rods which I sold immediately. I know a couple large dealers that dropped them over this also.

BoreTech also stiffed the VA 1k club with a bill for about $1500 as a sponsor the last time we held the Nationals. They had us order and pay for the Tshirts with their name on them and then refused to pay us back. Some of us pulled money out of pocket to cover expenses because of them, so guess I am definitely biased. IF they turned over a new leaf, they sure needed to, but I keep using my Deweys especially now that I can get them any length I want and customer service is tops if ever needed.

Never had the Tiptons so cannot discuss.

BountyHunter, I guess my experience is the same as yours with the Dewey's. The only reason I will every buy another rod is if I get a barrel too long for the rods I have now.

;)I use dewey . I have two 44 incg dewey reods for about 17 years and have used several diferent solvents and they look good as new and still work great.:p

:rolleyes:by the way I clean with a bore-snake in the p.d. fields but as soon as I get home I clean good with a dewey and boretec eliminater.:p

Well this one wins for oldest drug up thread of the day. 12 years.

Fwiw.. My boretech rods are working great and not peeling at all. They musta learnt sumpthin somewhere along the way.

Never had either Dewey or Bore Tech but my Tipton maybe four years old with thousands of passes...no complaints.

I have Dewey, Boretech, Tipton, Montana Extreme. Dewey's are the best in my opinion.
