cleaning results?

Recently entered the long range game and picked up 2 rifles.
A GA Precision .308 with a bartlien barrel. I followed break in directions. Shot it a little more yesterday. During cleaning, I noticed very little copper indicators. Patches were hardly blue at all.

Last week, I broke in a remington 700 in .300win mag. Seemed like the patches would never stop looking blue.

Used butches on both. Even used some sweats on both.

Is the bartlien just that much better of a barrel? Or am I doing something wrong?

The Bartlein barrel is a custom hand lapped barrel. They have taken the time to lap the tooling and manufacturing marks. Your Remington barrel is more of a high production barrel that they ship that step to save cost and increase margins. If cleaned properly it will eventually be lapped by the bullets. However, in the process, the rougher barrel will accumulate more copper and need more aggressive cleaning. Not something to be overly concerned about, just aware of. The finished quality of rifling is one of the biggest benefits of a custom barrel (aside from twists, lengths, profiles, clambering, crowning, thread accuracy/concentricity, etc, etc). You get what you pay for to a point.

When you hear gun experts poo-pooing the need for barrel break in, they are talking about hand lapped custom barrels, not production remingtons.

Research lapping and smooth it out. It will break in eventually but why wait? If you have that much copper.
