Cleaning patches.

Well, I tried ordering some more cleaning patches from Sinclair Int last week. I LOVE the Sinclair brand 1 3/4 inch for the 6 / 6.5 and .284 and the 2 1/4 inch for 30 cal on up. They worked PERFECT.

NO JOY Both part numbers are discontinued. So. I got their "new" 1 3/4 inch patch and there was no replacement for the 2 1/4. They said to get the new 2 1/2 inch.

Well, the 1 3/4 inch patches are JUNK. They are too thin and are made of a woven material called "crosslock" that when the going gets a little tuff the jag simply pushes through the patch and leaves it in the BBL with the rod sticking through it!!

The 2 1/2 are actually a nice patch...tan on one side and white on the other and thick, but I have to use my 6mm rod and jag to get it to go through my 338. Can not get it through my 30...even with the 6mm jag. Also, that little rod bends a lot in my 338. Actually, I just put my 338 jag on with the 1 3/4 and ran it through my 30. it fit OK, but I would like a little bigger patch

Anyone have a suggestion on where to get something like I had?

Sorry for the rant, but I have been using those same patches for many, many years!!

Try Pro-Shot 2" round for .270 , 7mm-8mm and work great on .30 cal. I use these on my 300 WSM and they are made in U.S.A. Don't see that much anymore. Our great congress and senate have sold this county for there on gain

I use to use Sinclair patches, now I find Montana Extreme patches the best I’ve used.

I turn down my jags to the patches so they fit good to clean but not so tight the rod bows much.

I got one of the rolling fabric cutters years ago, Fiskars.
Measure your favorite patch thickness.
Shower, clean up, trim facial hair, comb hair (in my case all three dozen of them) a splash of favorite cologne (not Hoppes #9 this time), make sure and clean under nails. Now that your ready go to the fabric store and measure the thickness of several bolts of white flannel. Find some that if not the same as your favorite patch, go thinner.

All the clean up and prep work to go to the store will pay dividends to the ladies there. Most are more than happy to help.

The rolling cutter and a straight edge you can make a pile of patches in just a few minutes. I bought several bolts of white flannel at a damaged freight out fit that had slight water damage in the late 80’s. I have all but used it up. Thread count will determine thickness most times. Lower thread count are not as tough as the higher.
FYI the edge with factory finish, cut these for shot gun patches.
I still buy a few 17 and 20 patches, but I darn sure won’t run out.
I did try T shirt scraps, I just hate them. Another cheap source can be laundry services that do bed linens, most will have flannel sheets.

I just buy the ones at J. Dewy's place when I go to get my brushes and stuff.
Now that I think about it I need to go get a couple of bore guides.

I must laugh looking at the first 2 posts on this thread because I hate Butches patches. We are all different. I found the 1 3/4 Pro Shot patches work fine for me with 1 .22 jag in 6 mms. Best price I found was on Amazon.

Pro Shot patches wrapped around Parker Hale style jags are what I have been using for the last 5 years. Wrapping the larger sized patches around the jags really increases the patch-to-bore contact area. I generally use the 6-7mm patches for cleaning my .22 calibers, the .30 cal patches for cleaning my 6.5 calibers, and the .338 cal patches for cleaning my .30 calibers.

Well either my jag is larger or ? I use the 1 3/4 patch for the 30 cal and it fits fine, not sure I could get a 2" patch through it. I do use the Park Hale jag
