Cleaning patch sizes?

Get a Parker Hale style jag in 7mm and 6mm. 1 3/8 Proshot patches with both, and any other caliber with the correct caliber Parker Hale.
I have both of these jags. I am going to order some 1 3/4” square patches to try, I also plan to get some 1 3/8” patches to sample. I only use proshot patches and for my 7mm I have been using their 2” round patches on a .22-6mm proshot tipped jag.

I have used a 1 3/4” sq pro shot patch on a 22 jag forever on a 6mm. If the barrel is real dirty you gotta stab a bit off center until you get the first pass down then you can get closer to the center. I even use this combo with abrasives. For a 7mm i use that same patch and a 6.5mm jag. If you use cheaper patches like the butch’s, sinclair, etc they are a bit looser so you may have to go up in jag size and stab a bit off center to get the right fit.
Thanks Dusty. I wish I had a dollar for every different size patch, brush, jag size and type on my workshop wall. My girlfriend says it looks like I’m trying to open a shop with all the rifle cleaning supplies on the wall. Lol.

After using Parker Hale jags in .22, 6mm and 1 3/8 Proshot patches, nothing else is ever used.

I see a lot of praise for Proshot patches, but I find them to have way too many loose threads. The Midway brand are at least as good, if not better than, the Proshot without having to pick out those annoying threads. Also, the Boresmith triangle patches seem to work well also.

I keep a pic so when i order i get the right ones.
It can be confusing when so many choices are in the pile.16787284402321638520282076828264.jpg

The pro shot patches are great material but I agree they seem to have a lot of loose threads. I just bought some triangle patches but have yet to try them out.

What Dusty describes, I think the small jag and large patch lets it get into the groove better. Especially with some of the abrasive cleaners.
