Cleaning jags

Elementary post....

What are you guys using for cleaning jags? I prefer the ones that pierce a patch so they catch the muzzle and fall off easy.

I have brass ones now...they work fine. Problem is I like a cleaning solvent with color indicator for copper....i get false blue from the jag alone.

I don't like the idea of anything steel going down a bore. So not sure if there are any other options?

I use Bore Tech Proof-positive jags to eliminate the false blue. They work well for me.

I see Ranger 188 beat me to it!

I just bought a bunch to replace the one's I break.
I bend the tip's. I'm a clutz.

which size jag would be one size smaller that a 223 224 cal ?
I use a 22 Cal (Brass) jag, then a Bronze Brush I also use the round 243 patches, I really don’t get a bunch of blue after the first couple passes.
Maybe I’m missing something

i use a 21st Century nylon with stainless barb.
Easy to pierce a patch if I want to (but I normally just hold the wet patch in front of the bore guide hole and push the rod in).
No copper false positives either.

I use pretty much one size [I think .25 cal] for all and just change patch size. 1 3/4 square works for .25 and .26 bores. Probly 1 1/2 square for .243. Unless you keep them in their OP it's hard know which size is which. I keep mine on the end of the rod even when it's in the case.

I use Pro-Shot stainless steel rods and I still have many David Wick brass jags and in several sizes. Why David Wick Jags? Because David made his jags so that the patch fit well into the recesses and got optimum fluid on the bore. If you profess that a stainless steel rod will destroy a bore, you’re doing it wrong. You’re not using a proper guide, you aren’t standing directly behind the bore, you are bending or flexing the rod, you are running an ill fitted jag beyond the bore and that ill fitting jag is thumping the crown. Does a stainless steel rod harm the bore? Hell no. Barrels die due to the heat at ignition of the powder. Does a brass brush harm the bore? No. Brass is softer than stainless steel. If you are running patches through without a jag on the end of the rod, you are one of a kind. Nuff said there.

Funny how this came up today as I actually went over to Dewey's and picked up some new aluminum ones today along with a new 36" rod with aluminum end and a bore guide and a few bore mops.
Talked with J. Dewey's grandson for a few minutes and back in reloading room in less than an hour.
So my preference is Dewey and they are local for me.
