Cleaning a powder thrower.

I was given a old rcbs powder thrower and the baffle inside has rusty finger prints on it. I was just going to use fine steel wool and oil to get it off and then degrease it so it wont harm any of the powder. Should i coat it with anything to prevent rust? Also should i wipe it out with alcohol to clean everything else? Thanks.

don't coat it with anything. Rub a dryer sheet inside and it will take care of static. sometimes a bit of dry graphite can help. Otherwise it should remain untouched.

Clean it however you want as long as you thoroughly degrease. Only lube with graphite afterwards

I use a drill and a wire type brush on the cylinder and the neck area especially the neck area, after you clean it well, powder will fall fast and free, then a dowel wrapped in sandpaper through the hole in the cylinder to resharpen the edges tohelp cut powder easier
