cleaning 17 cal. hmr

I have Dewey 17 cal. rod no bore brushes, got the wrong thread 3-48 need 5-40. went to my 17 bore snake, seems to work ok. whats the hot set up for cleaning one of these little pups

There is a better selection of 5-40 jags & brushes. Same cautions apply to the .17 rimfires as other guns, rod guides, brass wound wire brushes, etc. I usually don't let mine go more than 100 rds. without a good cleaning. With some guns, the accuracy falls off sooner than that.

When the 17rf first came out i remember reading about the barrels, they claimed that the lands was only 2tho thick, that dont leave any room for rods rubbing the lands, think i would stay with the cleaners and no brush"s,

I have always just used a patch on mine, since I got a .17 rod. I used the boresnake at first, with no issues. There is a real love/ hate with the boresnake depending on who you ask. The patchworm is also good for the .17's.

I have a Ruger with a 26" Shilen varmint SS bbl and clean it after every outing. Use a rod guide, brushes and jag with a Dewey rod.
