Cleaned a .22 so it would shoot better

Bench rest shooters clean every card, 50 shots. It takes 10 to re lube barrell.
Accuracy is the highest standards.
Using Quality ammo.
don't know about jacketed or cheap stuff.
I am not a competitor, but I have a stiller action, rock creek bbl AND a 17" contender bbl that shoot their best clean. I would really prefer what I read on here that they would be that way, BUT they aren't. Gary

I'm normally shooting "the old" Wolf Both handles and SK in both also. The best I have done was a certain lot# of wolf ME that I only got a 1/3 case of. Sure shows that ammo is the MAIN factor in the game of 22LR target shooting

It just needs to be broken in again, i.e. lubed with fouling. When I think about cleaning my 77/22 in WMR, I drink a couple of beers and lie down until the urge subsides.

Funny, 2 beer cleaning method :)
I'll have to shoot more until it regroups.
I thought a rimfire bbl w/ a jacketed bullet would benefit from cleaning, but nope.

That's good ammo. I like the SK subsonic HP's, too.

So the OP was talking about 22WMR not a 22LR. 22 WMR fouls differently than a 22LR. It did appear that his liked to shoot better fouled than clean. 22 WMR is not a lubed bullet, it's copper jacketed and travels alot faster than a 22 LR.

Not a competitor but I used to shoot a bunch of rimfire. On another site they have hundreds of threads about this very subject and their comments run the same range of opinions as this thread. What I do know is that I can predict the behavior of a clean barrel and how many shots to properly foul it back to accurate. But when a dirty barrel goes south there's no predictable method to get it back to accurate. If you are only plinking or occasionally hunting, no problem either way, but if you want to shoot small every time you pick up the rifle, you have to keep it clean.

Correct, 22 WMR was shooting great, and I had no reason to clean it, other than looking down the barrel and thinking - it's really dirty. I know better. :)

I know y'all are laying awake at night, wondering will this fellas rifle will ever shoot again !?
25 shots yesterday.

First & only round today.

Some good info from others posting, and a chuckle reading replies. thx.
No cleaning for this one!

Don't want to step on any rimfire toes but....

I shoot a metric chit ton of cast through varmint rigs,@ jacketed velocities. PigButtons hit on it up a cpl responses. You need to learn what your rig does coming off a deep clean...... not, "I never clean it".

Watch the carbon early in,by running sorta loose patches. Obviously lube is a huge factor, which is another reason you need to pay special attention at this point. If you never change ammo brands(lube stays consistent) this isn't as big a deal. But if you're constantly changing brands? well, good luck with that.

IMO there's some other "stuff" rimfire shooters are leaving on the table but that's a different conversation.

Apparently some posters didn’t read the OP’s post carefully enough or don’t know the difference - apples and oranges. By now the thread has gone pretty far off-topic but then that’s what usually happens…
