Classifications

So, after 120 shots of F-Open LR, I see that I have an expert rating on the lookup site. My question is, going forward, is it just a running average of every shot I take to determine next bracket either up or down? Is there a handicap system, or maybe just a limited look back at scores?

A competitor will be considered for reclassifi cation upward when his
most recently reported scores, for not less than 240 shots (120 shots
for Prone Classifi cation), fi red subsequent to the tournament date at
which he earned his current classifi cation, have been recorded prescribed,
except that such consideration will not include tournament
or league scores until after all scores for the tournament or league
competition concerned have been recorded. If his average score so
justifi es, he will be reclassifi ed upward accordingly.

A competitor will be reclassifi ed downward only upon request a request
in writing by him to the NRA, and only on the basis of at least
320 shots (180 shots for Prone Classifi cation) recorded as prescribed,
fi red subsequent to the effective date of his current classifi cation. If
his average on this basis so justifi es he will be reclassifi ed downward
accordingly.

I was wondering this myself as i was contemplating using this system in some club matches I run. This way the shooters would be competing against someone in their own classification. According to the NRA rules you add up the total points and divide by the number of ten shot strings. This gives the percentage. The rules don't say if they just keep adding to the total forever or if they drop the numbers from previous years.

Bottom line: It is an average of your last matches that total over 240 rounds that matter for reclassification.

Great! so as I continue to record shots, if my scores are improving, the older lower ones will eventually drop off.....

For Prone:
You remain at the same level until/unless your last 120 shot average (for prone) qualifies you for the next level up. Whether you move up depends on your last 120 shot recorded/submitted from an approved match. If you are a F-Class Masters and your next 120 shots average 97.8% are inside the 10 ring then you stay at that level. When your last 120 shots average 98.0% or better you qualify for HM.

Exactly! otherwise an early low score would always pull down a lifetime average, and it would be harder and harder to improve the average
