chrony

For a high power rifle about 10ft is recommend. I use 15ft and measure it from the muzzle to the light screen each time. I also carefully line up the units both horizontally and vertically with the line of fire.

I've alway used about 10 feet for any of my rifles I've shoot thru the chrony. Seems to work haven't had any trouble yet always git good readings.

I set mine at three paces -- 9 feet or so. However, a while back another poster made the point that muzzle blast can vibrate or move the chrony causing error especially if it is not on a real heavy tripod. I managed to blow the label off the front of my Alpha Chrony Master with a belted magnum, so there may be some truth in it. I plan this season to move it as far away as the extension cord will allow -- probably around 12 feet.

I use 15ft and set up on a Surveyors Tri-Pod with spike feet.
I also use a bore-site laser to assure aliment.

Directions with my "Shooting Chrony" advises to start at 15 feet, and if there are malfunctions to move it even further away. I have blown off the skyscreens at slightly shorter distances so now tie light cord around the skyscreens and base unit, bonnet style.

15-20 ft. Closer & blast from the boomers can cause mis-reads. Might loose a couple fps, who cares.
