Chrony Chronographs

Has anyone here used these types of chronographs? They are very inexpensive and fold up into a nice little box. My Oheler has seen one too many rain storms and mice have chewed into the wires on the sky screens. If Oheler is fixing to shut down this product line, I dont feel like putting anymore time or money into my model 35

I have a Chrony Beta Master. The blue one with remote screen. It is very sensitive to lighting conditions. It works pretty reliably mid-morning and mid-afternoon with hazy, overcast skies and no diffusers. It doesn't perform well with bright overhead light at noon, even with diffusers) or with the angled light of late afternoon. I've personally observed it give crazy, erratic readings in bright sunlight, while an Oehler 35p performed just fine in the same conditions,I had my Chrony set up and moved to the next bench over where an Oehler was in place).

We've also heard many anecdotal reports of Shooting Chronies tending to register higher speeds than other brands of chronographs. Who's right? Ken Oehler is the first to tell you that it's hard to compare chronies as there is no baseline load with an absolute known velocity that can be used to calibrate chronographs. Still, when Oehlers are placed in line to measure the same shot simultaneously, you see very consistent results. Put a Chrony in the same line up and the shot may register 30-40 fps different, more likely than not on the high side.

If you don't want the model 35, just send it this way. I'll PM you my address if you would like. But seriosly, I have a 35P and it is the best crono for the money ever available. Send it back to them and have it reconditioned and you'll have a cronograph without compare in the price range. The Chrony is cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the input folks. I think I may just take tightneck up on his suggestion, NO not the one that I send the 35 to him, the second one:nono:
