Chronographs

I'm using the Magneto Sport and I'm happy with it. I don't put it on the barrel when working up a load. No problem for me as I look for accuracy first and then see what the FPS is. One thing about the Sporter...You have to make to make sure it is tight on the barrel or it will probably miss the next shot! I check the tightness after every shot. Would like to start saving for a LabRadar, but that's down the road as I'm getting ready to start a new rifle.

Just got a MS for Xmas. I do understand that it throws POI off, but do the group sizes remain the same just in a different area on target. Also what constitutes a reasonable average for the casual shooter and reloader. 5, 10 or 20. More is better but is it that important to casual reloader.
MMKID try placing a piece of thin rubber (bicycle tube) between strap and barrel, supposedly keeps the strap from loosening up.

My experience with my MS Sporter is that the group size can't be trusted. In the past I've had some great looking groups that were not very good without it and the best groups without it were not very good with it - a combined barrel harmonic/movement thing I suppose. It is great for velocity,ES and SD after loads are done or nearly done and you are trying to narrow the choices and/or land on the best. I have tried putting the strap on the outside of the plastic retainer the strap is designed to go through and that seems to help some. I've thought about double sticky velcro to keep it in place, but barrel heat could be a problem. I'll have to try the thin rubber idea to see how that works - thanks for the suggestion! Like other posters above I've been able to try a friend's LabRadar and it is definitely on the wish/saving for list!

I have used a Pro Chrono for 30+ years and they still have the same basic design to this day. It has been a great chrono and I think it is only $125 bucks or so now.

Personally, I would go with a Magneto Speed for the price and handiness. I don't see why people think that they have to do load development with one on the barrel. Find the load that works and THEN use the chrono to verify velocity. It is a non-issue.

Magneto speed V3 is the best I've owned yet. Haven't been the owner of many of the top dollar models but love this MS V3. Only downside is I cannot run arrows thru it with archery gear. I'll have to purchase a cheap shoot thru model for that.
