Chronograph, which one?

I used my magneto speed in an FO 500 yrd club match. It is absolutely brilliant. I shot 1 relay with it on and one off. I have had no issues with the clamp.

I developed my load in cooler conditions - the club day had very warm (unseasonal) temps so I was a little worried...no worries the magneto verified that FPS were still correct and it backed up my score :)

No more wondering if my brass or load prep or temperature is an issue...clamp on the magneto and check it under MATCH conditions (club days only) with the chrony verifying the results...

I run a sled on the front of my FO rifle, I am reasonably confident that I can run a bracket from the sled to the magneto...no POI impact change and FPS verification of every shot sent...now that would be something.

Previously I used cheap chronys and struggled to get the es/sd numbers I expected for the effort I put into my prep...as soon as I swapped to the magneto I started getting the numbers I expected.

The archive log.csv file with the FPS, ES/SD numbers on the micro card is an easy to use touch as well.

IMO the magneto is superior in so many ways to the cheap chronies - which leaves it being compared to vastly more expensive chronys.....

I watched the brief video's, does the unit also give ES or just the SD ?

In the settings menu, you can choose either ES or SD to be displayed. The saved data viewed with notepad shows both.

About the only time I use a chronograph is during a ladder test and the follow up group testing. Doesn't the magneto chrono affect the barrel harmonics to the point a ladder test results could be skewed? I say this because it is obviously having some effect or you wouldn't notice the POI change?

I've been using my 35P for many years now and 99.5% of the time it is spot on. I've gotten the wires and unit set up so it takes me about 2 minutes to set-up, ready to shoot. The magneto chrono is an interesting concept... a product of our evolving technology. At this stage of the game 2 minutes is nothing and unless something came out that drastically changes how we gather reloading data, I'll stick with the 35P. I still like the printer paper to study later. Don't shoot a rifle at the range without the 35P in front of it except of course at matches. Now an IR/wireless target reader ...those might have me interested!! Eric in DL

I know a lot of places, your speed in being able to set up your chrono would be greatly appreciated by others using the range. But most folks take a lil longer to set that up.. Plus the ease of obtaining a 35P isn't something everyone can do. I like the ease of set up with the MagnetoSpeed and plus the price is better too.

I still think the PVM-21 is the most sophisticated unit out there, but it is in dire need of a software upgrade, and it takes longer to set up. Also, we've learned you need to carry a spare fuse with the PVM-21.

Why do you need to carry a fuse? I've used my PVM-21 since early August 2009 and have not had a fuse problem. Is the fuse inside the display unit?
