Chronograph recommendation?

Im looking at buying my first chronograph. I’m looking at the Caldwell. Has anyone used one of them? Looking to spend about $200 on one. What’s the best one for that price?

Save a little more and get the magnetospeed or a WTB add in the classifieds. No screens, you dont have to worry about the light being just right and give false readings. Plus you wont shoot it.

+1 for the Oehler 35P. These are a steal at the prices I have seen lately. A few owners of the Lab Radar have started to question the validity of the readings they have been getting lately. Will be curious to see how people feel about the Radar when the thrill of a new product wears off in about 6 months. Should make of for some interesting reading. Lol. :D:D

Well I've had mine for more than a year and it still gives the same info as it did new.
Velocity within 10 fps of what it said my 25 Swede was doing last year.
I have no complaints with it..

I have the Caldwell. Placed in tandem with other chronographs, the readings do agree. It is very fussy about having proper lighting, though. In hindsight, I'd really recommend the Magnetospeed.

Love my MagnetoSpeed V3.
Great chrono for load development.
No worries about missed shots or sunshades etc.
Since your budget is $200 go with the Sporter model. Same accuracy just a little more basic in accessories and user interface.

I made the choice to spend a little more and got the Magneto; no wires to shoot through and no concerns about proper lighting, and they're accurate.

After a great deal of research, I broke down and bought a MagnetoSpeed V3 just a couple of months ago. With the bayonet hanging on the end of the barrel, I was worried about the comments in various forums about a potential impact on point of impact and group size. However, in my case, using it on a heavy target barrel, I found no discernible change in either at 100 yds. When I shot at 400 yds, the point of impact moved high by one minute still without affecting group size. It is convenient, accurate, consistent and I would buy it again in spite of the extra money.

Paul,
I'm one of the guys that sold his Oehler 35P after getting a LabRadar. In January it will be 2 years since I began using it and I couldn't be happier. I understand financial constraints, and it is wise to live withing your means, but if mine broke today, I'd buy another within 15 minutes.

Kindest regards,

Joe
Same here Joe, but I wouldn't wait that long....
