choosing a chrono, Oehler - Labradar -MagnetoSpeed

Which would you get for once in awhile testing, once a year- does not have to be the best.
When I was in the market, a few years ago, my research said that I didn't really want one of the fold--up Chronys that the pistol shooters like so much, because they were not accurate enough for high-precision rifle reloading. This is why I got the CED, which I might (or might not) pick if I were in the market today. I don't know if the Chronys are any more accurate now than back then. I think I might get a MagnetoSpeed because I think it would answer the questions I'm asking in the easiest, most cost-effective package.

They seem to be able to record velocity to what ever you set the range for.....
Thanks. I'll bet that the next version of this chronograph will output velocity curves. That would be great.

For those who are only concerned with the speed of there load and deviations, you don't need a chronograph at all !.!.!
Simply by adjusting the velocity of a ballistics program (JBM, AB, etc.) to the actual drops on the target(s). That can yield more accurate and/or "true velocities" and deviations then many chronographs are capable of. That will be unique and true to your rifle barrel, bullets, and load.

Also a good way to check and/or calibrate a chronograph.

the other day, I was at our range, and the precision rifle instructor has a labradar one. he was having problems because someone was 3 benches down with a muzzle brake shooting. he says the blast is what starts the clock running, and the guy shooting the muzzle brake gun 3 benches down was causing problems and it interfered with his readings. has anybody heard of this happening?

I've read reviews that corroborate that experience. There are sensitivity settings but a muzzle braked shooter will give you trouble unless you create enough distance from what I've heard.

The chronograph triggers from muzzle blast. Each one has strengths and weaknesses.

Buy a simple chrono, I have a v3 and I can't say it is the best option. Get a lab radar unit if you can afford it.

Fact is it is hard to make my pro-chrono not work.

It is hard to set up fore sure even if fireings line is clear
