Choate Ultimate Tactical/Varmint Chassis Stock

So, I have acquired a Choate Ultimate Tactical Chassis Stock. I am going to use it as a BR stock to work up loads. Hoping to put all the bullet in one hole!

Question, What alterations have you made to make them shoot better? I see the front vee block and the lug bearing surface are one piece. Do you attempt to bed that area at all? Have you had to remove material around the trigger and bolt release? I read the article about the guy who shot a record with a nearly stock Savage rifle and the Choate stock. He indicated he had done nothing to the stock, I find that a little hard to believe!.

There are whole bunch of people out there that feel it's required to have bedding under all rifle actions in order to make them accurate.

On any quality stock with a "V" block I would avoid bedding. I would invest some time with some Prussian Blue or Brownell's Gold spotting compound to make sure that the action is fully contacting the block along the edge.

Make sure that there is no excess stock material above the block that would interfere with full contact. Also make sure that the tang area is not nicked or dinged, thus holding the rear of the action up and not allowing full contact at the forward mating surface. By spending some time "fitting" the stock and action, all that "gookum-pucky" is unnecessary with stocks using V-Blocks.
Also, invest in a repeatable accurate torque driver, some stock/actions prefer a tight front and a loose rear, others just the opposite .
The your stock has a wide bottom on the rear under side, so finding a rear bag that will accommodate your stock isn't easy, Also, with the "pistol grip" your gripping pressure will effect your groupings .

On the forend you will probably need to attach a block which fits your front rest properly. With a flat butt, a wide ear spaced rear bag will do the job. I've never seen an issue where the action did not fit the vblock well, but you should check the recoil lug and perhaps bed it.
