Choate Ultimate Sniper stock

Hi Guys

Does this stock allow for a magazine or is it a single shot only affair?

Many thank-a-roos in advance and a Great Christmas to one and all

Rob

Was looking at one of these the other day as I was wondering the same. They are sett up for a blind magazine as it is out of the box, maybe a gunsmith would be able to mill out the stock for the detachable mag.

Errrrr, depends on who you ask. When remigton lists their magazine capasity as 5 rounds, in most cases that means 4 in the mag and one in the chamber =5 (to me that means its 4 round capasity, not 5). Not sure if its the same for the choate stock, but since you have to use your own magazine follower and spring I would guess it's the same.
Like I said, I was looking at one the other day, I don't actually own one. Perhaps someone with personal eperience could confirm.

You might check with H-S Precision, they make a stock that is set up for a 10 round 308 detachable magazine. And they my even sell the cut out floor plate, and mag etc, if so its center feed and should fit a Rem 700. Or a Rem 700, will drop right in there HTR (heavy tactical rifle) stock, and its a cut or two above the Choate.

Have you put your hands on a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock yet?

I had one for about a month and couldn't stand it. Sold it to a fellow who loved the way it looked. He sold it to someone else in short order... I thought it was going to be a low-budget solution, providing a good stock for a long range/precision rifle, but I just couldn't get comfortable using it.

If it fits you though... Why not?

I have one -it is a big, ugly, heavy brute. They are made here in Arkansas jsut up the road from me. They ahve an aluminum bedding block system in them like the B&C stocks.

My evaluation:
They work, but in the prone position only.
Would I get another - NO.
Will I get rid of the one I have - NO.
Would I recommend one to a friend - NO.

I have one on my 6.5x284. I like the stock for shooting prone as I do also. It is not inletted for a magazine. I would think that it could be cut and fitted for a magazine/repeater if crafty or know a good smith.

Look also at the gun of the week. He has the same stock on his.

They are great the design enables you to pull the butt into the shoulder for better recoil control, they are good off the bench the only problem that I have is that my rifle does not have a big enough brake on it
