Adding length to 700 bolt?

Rem 700 223 with some nasty cock on close. I could gain roughly .035 by raising the detent/end of the bolt with mig welding and patience. What will go wrong that I'm not seeing?

I have roughly .275 pin fall currently. As a backup plan, would the .030 shaved cocking piece from ptg cause problems?
Thanks for any information you can share.

0.275 is the correct firing pin fall. BTW, the design cock on close is 0.041. Welding the detent is a possible fix but I think TIG is the right process instead of MIG. The cocking ramp will be at least partially annealed, so should be rehardened afterwards for smooth operation.

The shaved cocking piece should be OK. If not reliable, the extra power firing pin spring sold by PTG might fix it.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take some measurements see how far it is from .041. I have looked for an article on timing a factory R700, shaving the cocking piece was all I found. A mig welder is what I have, and a solution that might of worked. I rolled the dice on this action and got Monday or a Friday build. Thanks again
