Cheytac or something similar

Do many people use the 350gn 375 cal Sierras? I was hoping Sierra would bring out a heavier, sleaker 375 design along the same lines as the 183/197gn 7MMs and 230gn 30 cals.

It would be cool if they did but sadly they haven’t yet. I’d like to try a cup and core bullet around the 400gr mark to see if there is any advantage to the larger splash on misses

This last week the guys outside Great Falls, Montana let me join them in a practice session with my straight .375 Cheytac before a fly fishing trip. This build has been waiting for some attention and man was I surprised at a few things.

First, the wind hold off in typical ~13 mph wind 1/2 value (plus) wind relative to my .338 LM at 1,410 yards was multiples smaller. I’m going to estimate the hit to miss ratio between a Lehigh Defense 353 solid and a 250 SMK both running at their cartridge’s nominal velocity to be 3 or 4 times better with the .375 on their typical sized steel in variable wind.

Secondly, I was surprised how accurate this big round was. Having quickly zeroed it on steel about 1,100 yards out, impacts were too repeatable. We jumped out to the furthest target at 1,400 and stayed on it. It really shirks off the vertical wind component. I shoot Fclass and I believe this gun shooting twice the powder of a 7 Saum would actually do fine at midrange.

Thirdly the barrel simply didn’t heat up. I was running these at 2,980 at sea level which is relatively slow by at least 150 FPS, but still this barrel that tapers from 1.5” to 1.25” was cooler than my .284 Wins would have been. That was a very welcome relief. There aren’t many matches close to South Texas but this cartridge has me hooked.

Can't shoot a mile in any direction around here without hitting a Dollar General!
I picked up a 300 Norma Mag Improved 35˚.
The goal is keeping them all inside the "O" at a mile.

Mine was only marginally more $ to build than a standard cartridge rifle. The Bat 2 inch L and the McMillan Big Mac stock are probably 25% over conventional sizes. The muzzle brake, threading and big Atlas set it apart from a TR standard build.

Between those two, pretty much everything about the CheyTac is going to be more expensive, but I don't know anyone that gets into ELR to save money and with no slight intended toward the 37XC, if ELR is you goal, I think the 375 CheyTac or one of the "improved" versions based off the CheyTac case, is what you want.
