Cheetah

As I alluded to above, I think Rem 7 1/2 primers fall at the very upper end of the brisance range:

I can imagine that using such a "hot" primer might increase both initial and peak pressures, resulting in exactly the issues you described. Using a primer with lower brisance such as the Fed 205 or the CCI BR4 might have alleviated the problem to some extent.
Ned,
Not sure but I think as time went by there was talk of abandoning the small primer pocket brass for a large rifle primer case, maybe that was an answer to that problem??

I purchased a rifle marked 22 Cheetah .251 NK on barrel , which seems to mean that it is not a Mach1 or a Mach 11
but is closest to a Mach11, any ideas how i could form up ammo to shoot in this fine rifle, Any help will be appreciated.

Just because it has a .251 neck doesn’t mean it’s not a Mk I or MkII otherwise. Do you have loading dies for it? I’d start a new thread as this one is really old. If it didn’t come with dies I’d do a chamber cast to figure out what dies to get and then you can use them to size brass for cases. As has been said lapua has small rifle primer 308 brass if that’s what you want to use.

I wish I had fired enough rounds in my .224 Vais to determine my barrel life but it is just used to roll varmints over so has low round count even though 10 years or so old. It is the 6.5 x 55 Swede case and fires an 80 grain Berger VLD at 3560. Many have questioned my speed so I suppose my 3 groove button pulled barrel by Lilja and still coating them with moly have made a difference. It is likely the best groundhog round every utilized. It is fun to shoot and you never miss the impact because you can't blink fast enough to miss it.
