Cheek piece needed, whats the best brand/type?

I have a Savage F class in 6Dasher that the scope is mounted a tad to tall. (2.7625") I'm a Tall guy and has hoping it would work out but it hasn't. I can't get a consistent, quick cheek weld that allows we a clear sight picture. I have to chase it around a bit before im clear.

Im hoping adding a cheek piece/pad will help straighten this out... otherwise ill have to swap out my kelbly rings for the shorter ones..

Suggestions welcome...

See my review of the Bradley BUL cheekrest here. I don't know if this will work with the stock riding in a bag, but the thing would probably be solid even just using a single front securement.

Couple of ways to do this. Sorry Phil but I just hate those strap on comps. O lot of competition shotguns have this modification done and they do look good and function very well. I have had this done to one of my match rifles and like it a lot. here is a link to the folks that did that one. He did this one for me in less than a week turn around time. I post a picture at the end.

Another way is to get one of the custom gunstock folks to do it, it won't be as fast by any means but it is another way. Bill Shehane did the second one here, I like the way it looks better, but the function is about the same for both.

Understood. Frankly, I don't care for them either, but my "economy" 223 bolt gun with inexpensive Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist II stock already had a pricey bedding job, plus shipping to have it done, and them modifying the stock with adjustable cheek rest would be more bucks. Have to draw the line somewhere, but I still may do it.

This guy seems to enjoy a good reputation.

+ 1 on the Bradley cheek rest, you might want the adjustable model. I put one on my F-Class Savage, solid and looks good too

I hear you man. However that Bell and Carlson stock is no longer a candidate for a built in adjustable comb. The composite stocks have to have them built in at the time they are laid up. Yours is a composite shell with some kind of a form core, the shell if breached loss's it's integrity. only reason I know this is I just went thru it with a McMillian stock and tried in vain to have McMillian install one on a stock I had. So I guess in that case that strap on comb doesn't look so bad after all...

Roland,

The third post in the link I provided is from Joe Ducos (the guy who installs cheek rests), and he says this in response to stock weakening.

"...if anything it will strengthen the stock since I remove all the lightweight foam they're filled with and replace with high density fiberglass and marinetex...".

Hope you find the right solution.

Phil

I have the Karsten on my Savage FTR.

Works perfect. Zero complaints or issues.

I would recommend it. As mentioned you do have to drill your stock.. some folks don't like that.
