CHECKING THE NEW OFFERINGS FROM LEUPOLD

Has anyone ran the new offerings from Leupold on their "SCOPE CHECKER". Just wondering how they hold zero.

My new VX-5 has held up good on my 280AI,and I tuned up a fairly light 300 Weatherby Magnum for a customer. It's a VX6,and it held its zero better than I did on that thumper.I the the newer ones are doing pretty well.I had to send one of my Mark 4's back last fall because it wouldn't hold zero, but it's common for them to do that.Something to do with a plastic part that is put in them when they're built, but is replaced with a metal part when the plastic one fails.

Gosh, you would think Leupold would know better after the hundreds of thousands of scopes they have made and what shooters want and NEED in a scope....honest windage and elevation adjustments and HOLD POI. Geesh!!!!!!

All the stuff about super coatings, fancy knobs, supercalafragalistic glass, tubes as big as drainage culverts...its all nice window dressing. How about the important stuff?

I am not a Leupold fan (don't have a single Leupy rifle scope and no desire to ever own one) but I doubt seriously that they are putting a "plastic part" prone to failure in any current model. I saw a Meopta break once. No matter where you turned the turrets the POI did not change.

But my guess is that 99/100 Leupolds claimed to "not hold zero" actually have a problem that has nothing to do with the scope itself, e. g., rings, base or a change in the ammo's POI.

I don't trust so-called "scope checkers," either. If they had a gas station they'd be offering to check the air in your tires for "freshness," for a fee, of course. ;)

The best hunting scopes I have are several old Denver Redfield 2-7X. Two have been refurbished but all hold poi and adjust honestly. On their heels are a few Leup VX IIIi scopes, one 1-5X and a few 2-8. They have been honest scopes so far.

Scope checkers are valuable tools for those smart enough to use them. Suggesting they are a gimmick is simply an uninformed opinion.

I don’t know of anyone that has tested a newer high power variable Leupold but I’d like to. The glass of my VX5 HD 3-15x44 suits my eye very well. I haven’t tested it because it isn’t a target scope. It’s a fine hunting scope for my purposes.
