Why would a person use a fixed pilot rather than a live pilot?
Hes talking about the misconception that a reamer live pilot will straighten up a bad setup
Why not??? If the bore is dialed in properly, chamber drilled and pre-bored so the reamer has two centering contacts for INITIAL alignment, the bushing isn’t that critical. I’ve used both and not noticed an iota of difference. Why would a person use a fixed pilot rather than a live pilot?
On one hand I might be paranoid and judgmental based on price. On the other hand it’s premium equipment so it might be foolish to cheap out on the chambering.
Thoughts?
I’ve chosen to use a different Smith for this chambering.Does the fellow have some references? Another question: how pissed will you be if he trashes your reamer?
I'd possibly lean towards finding a less expensive barrel to send him and see how it works out. Keep the brux on the shelf for later.
