Cheaper Ammo and Accuracy

I know this has been covered but i can't find it. I am going to start fooling with my 22 rimfire and I'll weigh them, but I am not going to pay a dollar a shot! In "real world" experience, which manufacture should I look at? I see there are Browning 22 shells but am sure somebody else makes them. Also Federal Black? Is there one that I should start with or just grab and start shooting?
The rifle you shoot and how small a target you want to hit could determine how much you want to spend on ammo.
I don’t know any rimfire ammo that is “a dollar a shot”. Maybe on Gunbroker??…..

My friend and I used that AL casing CCI Blazer stuff one time in our 9mm ( P99 and PT-92) and it shot about 3 inches low in his and shot about 3-4 in. groups in mine.

With WWB I can get 1 in. groups and he gets right about the same (if not a little better).

All this is at about 10-15 yards, take it for what you will.

You really have to test the ammo in YOUR rifle. I took my Boyds stocked Savage FVSR with about 50 rounds through it and several different kinds of ammo to test. As expected the Eley ten X and Black Box shot fantastic as did the Federal UM1. The Ten X was in the .3's and the other 2 were in the low .4's. The Wolf Match Extra which is SK std, if memory serves was in the high .4's, "Lapua made". Remington Match, by Eley was in the .5's. Fed 510's and CCI std were .75-1.0". The Federal Gold, new production was around an inch. The really cheap stuff was all over an inch. On the RFC, guys brag about the 510's and CCI std., but not in any of my rifles. For the $$ the SK std was the best mid range ammo by far.

Eley has been making Wolf for a few years now.

To the OP, if you're going to shoot 200-300 yards buy the best ammo you can afford.

Nearly everyone at my and other local longrange rimfire matches used the old Wolf ammo, as it became harder to get after Eley started manufacturing ammo for them shooters started finding alternatives. I remember one of the last holdouts using Eley Wolf gave up partway thru the match. She re-entered using some SK Biathalon and finished well up in the pack. Not one shooter is using Eley Wolf, the amount of crazy fliers was very noticeable compared to the old Lapua Wolf. I spot every shot of each shooter and it's pretty easy to see the differences in ammo from shooters you've spotted for years and know what to expect from them. The differences are more noticeable shooting at longer distances that the slight variations you'll get up close.

In my first trip to Lapua test tunnel in 2015, my tech who had been to the factory, explained the Wolf production to me. SK and Wolf were loaded on the same machines. There was a divider plate on the line. One side was for SK and the other side was for Wolf. Quality sorting put production as to Wolf Match Extra/SK-RM. The rest was put to Wolf Match Target/SK-Standard+. If guys are wanting to try ammo at the same quality control level as the old Lapua produced Wolf, they need to shoot either SK-RM or SK Standard+. Same ammo as before Wolf took their contract to Eley.

I have good luck with CCI Std Vel and SK Std at 25 and 50 Yards. For 100 and 200 yards my CZ prefers Lapua Midas + or Fiocchi Winter Exacta. The more expensive ammo has a more consistent velocity which gives me smaller vertical spreads.

The best I have used not counting all the expensive stuff (eley , lapua and the like) is federal auto match. And i too loved the wolf match.
