Cheap AR barrel , Hidden gems ?

Looking at getting a custom barrel or one of the nice ones in the $250 range for my first scratch upper build but being the poor I am I was curious. Anyone happened to find any hidden gems when it comes to cheap AR barrels ?

If you can manage 275, get a white oak armament barrel. WOA makes -excellent- barrels. I won a 3x600 high power state match with one.

Get the white oak, it's a much better barrel than the price would suggest.
Edit: the white oak service rifle barrel at 20 inches is 220 bucks. It is perfectly reliable and will easily go 3000 rds with good accuracy. If you want longer or shorter, they have that too.
If you're looking for a 16" or less, the faxon is ok and even the CHF palmettos (made by FN) are a good choice.
But again I recommend the white oak. Hollinger uses his own lower cost barrel for competition using Wilson blanks that he laps. I wouldn't hesitate to use his stuff at all. I have had multiple barrels from white oak and will buy more.

If you want a solid "battle rifle" barrel instead of something focused on target shooting, check out Rosco. Flannel Daddy (Garand Thumb) likes them and nobody puts more rounds through barrels than him. I have a few of them and they're very good.

Rainier Arms Ultramatch, White oak Armament and Larue all worked for me. All are in your price range you just need figure the purpose for the rifle. Lately all I have handled are Larue barrels.

I have an Criterion 18” HBAR 8-twist, rifle length gas, .223 Wylde, chrome lined that shoots really well. They have blems on sale for $240 currently. My buddy shot a great score with it at the Kansas balloon shoot with Sierra 77s and H4895. Perhaps the highest single score in the gas gun division.

Check out the barrels manufactured by Mossberg. I have a 24" 1:8 bull that will drive nails and I've used the same barrel on builds for friends and they've reported the same results.

Seriously, the barrel on my heavy upper is a legitimate quarter-minute barrel.

That's awesome, I've been looking high and low for a 1-12" twist barrel. I'd about given up

Those at 1-7 or 1-8. I too was looking for a 1-12 for a coyote gun and couldn't find anything.... I ended up making one. It's ugly as hell but it works.

Ah! Yes, the predator barrels! I don't have one, but a friend does. They are excellent. They have short freebore, so plan on mag length, but for the purpose that should be fine!
