Chassis Torque on a CZ 457

Recently I have been swapping my action from the 457 to a MDT/L3i and torquing
by hand too lazy to grab the Wheeler so today I checked and it was at 35lbs- above
what I believed was best. I moved it all the way to 20lbs to compare. Below are the two targets
using different types of Ammo.

I expected some improvement but was pleasantly surprised to see how much better the SK Rifle Match did.

I got sucked into trying a brick of the Norma Tac ammo. The gun hates it.

Better be meaning inch pounds ?? Your range for torque is a low of 15 inch lbs
to a high of 45 inch lbs. Always keep the front screw 5 inch lbs more then the rear.
These are rimfire specs, and not to be used on center fires.

Have five CZ MtR in our stable
4 shoot lights out at 20 front 20 rear
One likes 25 front and rear
They all shoot like crap with any less and any more.
It matters !!
If you don’t lightly oil threads and do a test in couple in lb increments you are leaving a Lot of gain on the table
That is in factory stocks.
You must check recoil lugs for fit some are in a bind. I can take as little as .010 off of one and gain performance it seems. I am testing those now. These are ARA factory shooters
Every tiny detail matters when looking for that little bit of advantage. I shoot every week against bedded mTR’s while ours are not. I see no advantage. Yep it defies logic and common perception but I have not been beat because his was bedded mine was not
Ammo ammo ammo ammo lots. That is what matters

Are you using the L3i barrel? I just put one on my son’s 457 and only took a couple of boxes of Norma Tac22 and it did not do well. I think some things were loose though. When I got home I re-torqued everything but haven’t gotten back to the range.

Wrist tune will not cut it in ARA
On the other hand I have a plain Fat Wrench not high $$$ stuff and it shows me that it works just fine
Only talking factory rimfire in Ara trim here
My fat wrenches would not “cut it”, for a paper weight, so I smashed them into little bits, to prevent anyone from digging them out of the dumpster. No offense of course to anyone who likes these :)

How did you bed the action and float the barrel?

Fuj- Yes my error there on Foot vs Inch. Extra 5 on the front screw eh?
Thanks I will try it.

BowCh- Can you elaborate on that a bit more please? Slow one here.

DustyDave- Interesting to know the 20/20 is your best on 4 of 5 457s.
What do you think of the suggestion to use 5 more inch lbs on the front
screw?
I glued my recoil lug in place as it fell out upon initial inspection.

Luvdog- Today was the stock 457 not the MDT/L3i gun. I will use the remaining Norma
ammo for off hand Silhouette practice only. My guns likes SK and most Lapua.

TD- I started with limited resources so I bought cheap tools. Yes they are crap.

JRPete- Was that meant for me? I do not bed or float anything but the gun is a free floating barrel.

Bedding is allowed in ARA factory but I have not bedded any
We are shooting stock CZ's unaltered except a trigger spring--nothing else--no bedding, no bolt shims, no head space shims etc and off bipods--we do good with them

HalfCZ you just have to test on your rifle and see what Proves to be best on yours

I went heavy on The grandsons factory CZ 457 at 35 front 30 rear.
No bedding, Timney 10 ounce trigger. The rifle gets serious enough
with R-50. That Eley 10X is a real close second, and bought another
of the same lot of it for his practice. (and mine) LOL......

Thanks. his 457 with the factory barrel shot anything SV well. I picked up a couple of bricks of Norma Tac because of all the great online comments about it. I never used it in his factory barrel though. But the new barrel had results similar to yours.
I have some SK and Lapua that I'll try. I was hoping to save all the Lapua for my Vudoo though. LOL.

Yes Sir....I would bed my barreled action to my chassis. The two are not mating together well and I believe this would help.
