Chasing The Spotter

Surely you mean by that all shooters don't you? I do not believe that you only mean shooters that hold the same point of view. Or do you? My comments should fall right slab in the middle of that comment. I am after all commenting on what "I" feel is important and commenting accordingly...

Roland

Yep - all shooters.
Yes - lets disagree on whether the opinion is narrow minded or not - or if an opinion on the subject should be criticised in such a way.

It has been an interesting thread. :)

6BRnNZ, Man this is a public talk forum damn right it not only can but should be critiqued. It is not only narrow minded ( In My Opinion) but it is silly to even consider the "True F-Class Experiance", what ever in the world that is, as having to be the same for everyone. The man is intitled to any opinion he can stand up and voice, I will gladly fight for his right to do that and to hold any opinion he wants to hold. Just because I applaud his choice to do that, I am not going to in the same breath give up my right to voice a different opinion than his.

Yes I am winning shooting like that as a matter of fact in my first 1,000 yd match were there were 58 shooters I finished 2nd to Danny Biggs. I did that in 4 matches that year finishing 2nd to Mr. Biggs. I think that puts me in pretty good company. I have not attended the Nationals as of yet , any more Bodifides you need there?

As to what range how's about Oak Ridge Tennessee? or maybe Tullahoma Tennessee and also Blakely Georga all shot the same time limits of 30 minutes to shoot your string after a 3 minute prepare time. Is it different else where?

Well, I've shot with Danny a couple times. He is, of course, a fine shooter. You should shoot at Raton this year. [br]
I've shot at Tullahoma but it's been many years. The other two you mentioned are reputed to be fine facilities. I usually shoot at obscure ranges here in the San Diego area. No one but a Marine would know about them. ;) Where I shoot, prep time is not quoted as part of shooting time. So, 30 minutes is standard.

Steve,
I have done a lot of shooting over the years around and about San Diego area. I was stationed at Pendleton several times over my career but that was long before I ever started shooting F-Class. I also shot Silhouette for many years and that was at a little place I would think you have heard of on an Indian Reservation in that area, Palla. I have been to Raton many times as well. I shot the BPCR Silhouette Nationals there every year for 8 years. I do plan on attending a Raton shoot in High Power there next year, but I wasn't sure the nationals were there every year.

As to the 33 minute deal, I was surprised the first time I saw this format. It was my first 1,000 yd match at Tullahoma. When the made the announcement I thought it meant what it said.

" You will have 3 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to shoot your shots of record"

All equipment and rifles had been brought to the line already. They then said

"You may commence fire when you target appears"

There was not a separate prepare time you had the 33 minutes to get it done. It never made sense to me but I was new and thought that was just the way it was done everywhere...

The F-Class Nationals and Worlds are there this year. F-Class Nationals will be held at Ben Avery in Phoenix for 2014 & 2015. I shoot on MCB Camp Pendleton Range 103 for Mid Range and Range 117 for Long Range, as a member of Santa Margarita Gun Club. I was Navy but they allow me to shoot there, despite that.

We must be careful about who we challenge on this site, there are world class competitors aboard. I made a stupid mistake when half-asleep I said offhand when I meant offbench and had my arse on a platter and I didn't know why. It is the expertise AND diversity that make this my favorite site.

In one of my business trips to Scotland back in 98 I had the opportunity to shoot in Blair Atholl, that was when I was introduced to multiple shooters on the mound, I have to admit, after the first day of getting used to it, I actually enjoyed it, the format suits my style of shooting - click and shoot.

The scenery does hurt either. Blair Atholl has to be one of the most beautiful places to shot there is.

Tony,

You are right about the beauty of the range, but the wind at Blair Atholl was not friendly to spotter chasing.. My friend Charles Young loaned me TR Musgrave, what a shooter it was.

i dont think too many perfect scores will be a problem when each individual shot needs to be evaluated.
the cream will always rise to the top after a day or two of competition. what interests me is, when it is considered normal to rattle off the 10-20 shots in 2-3 minutes on electronic targets are we cheating ourselves of the main experience that separates f from benchrest.
maybe we can program in the odd bad pit service randomly in the etargets to really stimulate the true fclass experience ;D

kiwial, I find your comments to be very narrow minded. I have never thought of the F-Class experiance in that way. Why would any two shooters have to have the same experiance? What is exactly is the "True" F-Class experiance? Does that "True" experiance have to be the same for you as it is for me?

I also tire greatly of the comments about shooting fast, as being an almost negative way of shooting. Thank God we can shot this or any shooting sport in what ever technique we find that works for us, and not have to shot in such a way that any shooter is having to use some preconcieved shooting discipline that conforms to his competitiors way of shooting.

Roland
im sorry. i was giving my thought on a earlier post on where making scoring rings smaller for separating the field more (maybe i should of pointed that out).
as for the true f experience- for me its taking in the conditions and correcting as i see it and having the spotter from the last shot a important part of the equation, and yes i was referencing to electronic targets where your shot is instantly registered neglecting the time traditionally taken to pull a target, mark, patch and place spotter thereby a shooter could in theory shoot all their shoots benchrest style.
i am not against people shooting fast at all, as you said we all enjoy shooting different and no one should have the right to force ideas onto others.
maybe i should of just posted i like f class shooting but dont like the idea of changing all the rlues to make it another benchrest class

lastly... i thought i had brought up a valid question earlier on what direction people think f class should go. so maybe go back and fresh up on a page or two before you jump all over the first reply on a new page :)
